Progress doesn’t require a perfect day-just the courage to take one more rep.

There’s something nobody tells you about the bleachers.

They’re where we slowly learn to let go. šŸ„Žā¤ļø

When our girls were little, we could fix almost everything.

A scraped knee?

Come here.

A bad dream?

Climb into bed.

A missing toy?

Mom and Dad will find it.

For years, when something hurt, we could reach them.

Then one day…

there’s a fence between us.

She strikes out.

And we can’t walk over and make it better.

She makes the error that costs a run.

We can’t rewind the play.

She gets pulled from the circle.

She sits on the bench when she desperately wants to be on the field.

A teammate hurts her feelings.

A coach makes a decision she doesn’t understand.

And there we are.

Ten… twenty… fifty feet away.

Sitting on some of the least comfortable pieces of aluminum ever created by mankind. šŸ˜‚

Watching.

That might be one of the hardest transitions in parenting.

Because every instinct says:

Go help your girl.

But the game keeps teaching us something we aren’t always ready to learn.

Some things belong to her now.

Her at-bat.

Her disappointment.

Her comeback.

Her friendships.

Her courage.

Her game.

So we grip our coffee.

We shift around on that terrible bleacher.

And we watch her figure it out.

Sometimes beautifully.

Sometimes awkwardly.

Sometimes with tears hiding underneath eye black.

But then something happens.

She strikes out…

and walks back into that box the next time.

She makes an error…

and asks for the ball again.

She loses…

and still lines up to shake hands.

She sees a teammate struggling…

and becomes the person who puts an arm around HER shoulder.

And suddenly we realize:

She didn’t need us to rescue her.

She needed the chance to discover that she could survive the hard parts herself.

Maybe that’s why these uncomfortable seats become so precious.

From the bleachers, we get a front-row seat to something much bigger than softball.

We get to watch our daughters need us differently.

Less fixing.

More believing.

Less holding their hand.

More being the familiar face they can find beyond the fence.

And someday…

the field will be empty.

The dugout will be quiet.

Those bleachers we complained about for years will just be bleachers again.

And I suspect we would give almost anything to sit on that hard aluminum one more Saturday…

coffee in hand…

watching OUR GIRL figure out who she is.

So yes.

The bleachers are uncomfortable.

But what a privilege it is to have a seat.

ā¤ļø We came to watch them play.

We ended up watching them grow.

It was never just softball.

Making someone else smaller will never make you bigger.

You don’t build confidence by tearing down the confident.
You don’t create success by punishing those who succeed.
And you don’t develop stronger athletes by asking your strongest athletes to become less so everyone feels equal.

You raise the standard.

When someone is struggling, we don’t lower the bar—we help them reach it.

We coach them.
We challenge them.
We give them opportunities.
We demand effort.
We celebrate improvement.

And when someone is excelling?

We let them excel.

Their success isn’t something to be afraid of. It’s proof of what’s possible.

Strong teammates should pull others forward—not be held back so everyone stands in the same place.

At OutKast, we’re not interested in making the strong weaker.

We’re interested in making EVERYONE STRONGER.

Raise people up.
Raise expectations.
Raise the standard.

There’s a difference between helping someone and doing everything for them.

Real help isn’t removing every obstacle from somebody’s path. It’s giving them the tools, knowledge, support, and opportunity to learn how to overcome those obstacles themselves.

As coaches, parents, leaders, and mentors, sometimes the easiest thing to do is step in and fix it.

But easy isn’t always helpful.

If we solve every problem, make every excuse, remove every consequence, and carry every load, we may make today easier—but we haven’t prepared them for tomorrow.

Teach them.
Guide them.
Encourage them.
Hold them accountable.
Let them struggle sometimes.
Let them learn how capable they really are.

Because the goal shouldn’t be to make someone dependent on your help.

The goal should be to help them grow until they no longer need it.

That’s development.
That’s leadership.
That’s what we believe in at OutKast.

Let me tell you a little about her: Octavia is one of our youngest OutKast athletes, but don’t let her age fool you! She is not afraid to get dirty—on the field!šŸ’ŖšŸ½šŸ”„
She brings so much energy, determination, and personality everywhere she goes.
