Escape to the Page, facilitated by Sondra Hall, is a no-pressure, come-as-you-are creative writing adventure for enthusiastic and reluctant writers alike. Our focus is on sparking creativity using a variety of generative writing activities. Expect the unexpected!

We'll meet around the virtual kitchen table and explore all kinds of techniques for diving into writing while sidestepping our inner critic. This is a come-as-you-are party! Everyone is invited to share their work, but there is no obligation to do so. This class is generative—we will not be critiquing or workshopping writing.

Wednesdays, September 23-October 28, 6:30-8:30 p.m., online via Zoom.

What a beautiful thought, from artist Vincent Van Gogh, that our creative practice and inspiration are somehow entwined in an endless dance of inspiration and manifestation. Dream on, creative friends!

This quote by Sigmund Freud is wonderful because it speaks to the action and dedication of being in creative process. A sort of "creativity helps those who help themselves."

Sure, having a butterfly (or an idea) land on you means patiently sitting still in a meadow. The butterfly won't land on you if you change it around, maniacally waving a net. But before you can be still and wait for the butterfly to come to you, you have to get yourself to the meadow where the butterflies feed and flit about.

That's the "going halfway to meet it" part — putting yourself in the places and spaces (such as a workshop, training, or artistic event) that lend themselves to inspiration.

How will you meet creativity halfway this week?

Whether you're a globetrekker or an armchair traveler, here's a creativity prompt to send your imagination on a journey.

1. Spin a globe, open a map, or use an online tool such as earth3dmap.com/3d-globe to randomly choose a destination. With eyes closed or covered you simply reach out and touch a spot on the globe / map / webpage.

2. Wherever you land, that's the prompt for a writing exercise. You can write a flash story, a poem, or a postcard about the place you chose. (If you land in the ocean, you can either choose again, or let the ocean be your destination — perhaps you're writing about a sailing adventure, or visiting a mermaid city under the water!)
HINT: If you choose to write a poscard, think of it as a "Having fun, wish you were here" note, with plenty of detail about the place and what you're doing there.

3. Loved this prompt? Share it with a friend! And let us know in the comments where your journey took you.
