Orioles trade Adley to the RedSox.
The Baltimore Orioles trade franchise catcher Adley Rutschman to the Boston Red Sox in one of the most shocking deals of the 2026 trade deadline. The former No. 1 overall pick and three-time All-Star spent parts of five seasons in Baltimore, helping lead the Orioles back to postseason contention while becoming one of the faces of the franchise.
In return, Baltimore received a package headlined by top pitching prospect Anthony Eyanson, along with Kyson Witherspoon, outfielder Enddy Azocar, and major league catcher Carlos Narváez. The move signals a changing of the guard behind the plate, with Samuel Basallo now expected to take over as the Orioles’ long-term starting catcher while the organization adds significant young talent for the future.

The Orioles selected Eric Booth Jr. with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, adding one of the most athletic high school players in the class. A left-handed hitting center fielder from Oak Grove High School in Mississippi, Booth brings elite speed, strong defensive potential, and an emerging power bat to Baltimore’s farm system. He was widely regarded as a top-10 talent and has the upside to develop into an impact player at the major league level.
