As your jiu‑jitsu improves, success should become calmer and more deliberate. Instead of relying on speed, strength, or chaos, the focus shifts toward balance, positioning, timing, and control. The goal is to steadily shape the exchange so that your opponent is reacting to your decisions—not the other way around. When that happens, the finish comes naturally rather than through force or urgency.

This principle applies everywhere. In sport, it means dictating pace, conserving energy, and finishing on your terms. In self‑defense, it means staying composed under pressure, neutralizing danger efficiently, and resolving the situation without unnecessary risk. In both cases, efficiency is a sign of deeper understanding.

Today we learn of a loss that is not only very close to me, but touches the history of this great art that we are lucky enough to share.

I thought we had more time. I thought we had more memories to make. I thought we would share the mats once again.

We will once again, just not on this earth.

My dearest friend Márcio, I currently have no words.

This man was such an incredible human.

I met him at a summit, and we became very close. My brother, though your work is completed here, you survive through all you have touched. We will take it from here, my friend. We will do our best to be the light that you carried—a light that can never be replaced.

Today, we learn of your light being lifted and continued elsewhere. Though the loss hurts, the light and life you shared with us doesn't leave us. We lean on it in the shadows of our own days, and in the days we need brightness, may we remember the gleam in your eye and the brightness in your smile.
