LMSA'S NEWEST LOCALS. We have three new members joining us at the Lake Monroe Sailing Association! They aren't great at steering yet, but their synchronized swimming is flawless. Check out the video to see our newest, fluffiest locals checking out the slips. Keep an eye out for the goslings next time you’re heading out on the water, and give them a little extra space to navigate!

LET THERE BE LIGHT... ON THE DOCK We’ve officially upgraded the southwest corner of A Dock here at LMSA. Whether you're heading out for an evening sail or returning after sunset, navigation just got a major boost. The new light sits on the southwest corner to make sure you know where the end of the dock is.
FROM FLAMES TO SAILS. If you’ve ever noticed the small, distinct flag flying proudly from a boat's masthead, you are looking at a burgee. It is the official badge of honor used by sailing organizations around the world to identify their members.
At the Lake Monroe Sailing Association, we don't just fly ours on the water—you can also spot our burgee flying proudly from the yardarms on shore at the club!
Our design has a very special backstory deeply connected to our Hoosier heritage. Check out the video below to see the clever transformation from the Indiana State Flag into the official LMSA crest:
The Indiana Torch: On the state flag, the iconic gold torch stands for liberty and enlightenment, with its rays spreading influence far and wide.
Flames into Sails: Watch how the dancing flames of the Indiana torch morph into the blowing sails of our vessel.
Handle into Keel: See how the torch handle is practically identical to—and perfectly doubles as—the sturdy keel of our boat.
While we haven't been able to find in our archives exactly when this clever logo was created or who designed it, the brilliant connection to our state flag lives on every time we raise the flag.
It might not be a Hollywood-level animation, but it perfectly shows how our history meets the water!
LMSA UNIVERSITY PUTS SAFETY FIRST. Today was a great day at our Moores Creek Marina! Did you know that LMSA offers specialized education all season long? Today's session was part of our LMSA University program, which brings members exclusive classes throughout the summer. Today’s curriculum went beyond the sails to focus on critical life-saving skills. We hosted a First Aid & CPR Certification Class for our dedicated club members and our incredible Youth Sailing Team! Quick reflexes and emergency preparedness are just as vital as catching the right wind when you are out on Lake Monroe.
A MASSIVE SHOUT-OUT & THANK YOU! A giant wave of gratitude goes to Kealy Turpin for volunteering her time to lead this LMSA University course, bringing along her expert co-instructor (Nikki Maddox), and fueling our team with a delicious box of donuts! Your generosity keeps our sails full and our sailors safe.
We had an amazing turnout today! A big shout-out to all our safety-focused members in attendance, including Sam Allen, John Boshears, the Westphall family, and Deaton Grove & his stellar crew. Way to step up, team!
WHAT'S NEXT FOR LMSA UNIVERSITY? Don't miss our next session! Mark your calendars for Intro to Racing on May 23. Whether you want to sharpen your competitive edge or learn the racing rules of the road, this class is for you.

DON'T GET LOCKED UP FOR THE NIGHT. Just a quick heads-up to all our members: Everyone should have been issued a gate key! If yours is missing in action or you never received one, please stop by the office to get squared away.
We often keep the front gate locked for everyone's security, but that means it can be a bit unforgiving if you’re keyless. We’d hate for you to find yourself stuck on the wrong side of the bars—whether you're trying to get to your boator, worse, trying to leave!
A few friendly reminders for our "Gate-Keepers":
Relock immediately: Per our rules and regulations, please relock the gate as soon as you pass through.
No "Plus Ones": To keep us all safe, please don't allow others to follow you through if they don't have their own key.
The "Accidental Trap": In the past, visitors have been unintentionally locked inside because they followed a member in and had no way to get back out.

WHO WANTS TO BE A SHINING BEACON FOR OUR CLUB?
We are giving away a $50 West Marine gift card as a way to reward the member or friend who shows our community the most love over the next four weeks! Facebook officially calls these most active members "Top Fans"—marked by that distinctive blue diamond 💎—and we want to see who can be the brightest beacon for our fleet.
How the "Points" work:
Facebook automatically tracks who interacts with our fleet updates, event photos, and sailing news. To climb the leaderboard and earn your diamond, here is how you earn points:
SHARES (Top Value!): Sharing our posts to your timeline is the fastest way to the top. It helps us grow the club! ⛵
COMMENTS: Engaging with our posts and starting conversations is worth a lot of points toward your badge. 💬
REACTIONS & VIEWS: Liking our photos and watching our sailing videos keeps your score growing! 👍
How to get your badge:
Watch for the invite: Facebook will send you a notification when you’ve earned your diamond. You MUST click "Accept" or "Display Badge" for it to show up next to your name.
Privacy Check: To make sure we can see you on the leaderboard, go to Settings & Privacy > Followers and public content and make sure "Who can see the people, pages, and lists you follow" is set to Public.
(Note: If your settings are private, Facebook's system cannot add your name to our winner's list!)

KEEP RACCOONS FROM BECOMING YOUR FIRST MATE. Listen up, LMSA captains! If you don't want a "masked pirate" from taking the helm tonight, follow the three golden rules of harbor security:
THE GOLDEN RULE: No Food, No Garbage. The absolute #1 defense is making sure there is nothing to eat onboard. Take your trash to the marina bins every single night. If the kitchen is closed, they’ll skip your slip!
SKIP THE BUFFET: Scrub the Scent. Raccoons have incredible noses. After a BBQ or dinner, wipe down your deck with a little bleach or vinegar. Getting rid of those lingering food smells ensures they won't even be tempted to board.
LOCK IT DOWN: Tight Hatches Only. Raccoons are furry locksmiths—if they can get a paw in a gap, they will open it. Double-check that every latch and portlight is fully secured. If it isn't locked tight, it’s an open invitation!
HE SOAP TRICK: Want an extra layer of defense? Some sailors say raccoons hate the smell of Irish Spring soap! Tuck a bar in a mesh bag near your transom or entry points. It keeps the boat smelling fresh and the critters on the dock.
Keep a clean deck, a soapy scent, and a tight hatch for a peaceful night on the water. If anyone has other dockside hacks, please share them.

RAMPING UP SUMMER PROJECTS. Our staff has gotten a jump on replacing the decking on C and D dock ramps. Thanks to the Turpins for painting the boards for us. If you are looking for hours let us know, and we will look for day to put together a crew to complete this project. You can also visit us on the GroupMe app at LMSA Social, where people are trying to organize a work day as well.
FEWER RULES... MORE RACING. Our Weekend Cruiser Series is officially back, and we couldn't have asked for a better start to the season! While last year’s unpredictable spring conditions kept us off the water for most of April and May, we roared to life this weekend with eight different boats hitting the line.
If you’ve ever felt intimidated by the "Racing Rules of Sailing," this is the series for you. The Cruiser Series is all about camaraderie, skill-building, and—most importantly—having fun.
Why you should join us next time:
Low Pressure, High Fun: We prioritize basic "rules of the road" so even novices can compete safely and confidently.
Level Playing Field: Our unique handicapping system helps bridge the gap between different skill levels. It’s about the spirit of the sail, not just the speed of the boat!
The Social Scene: The Saturday race finishes with a party in Cresson Shelter, where we cook burgers, order pizza or pull something else together.
Learn the Ropes: Join the Skippers Meeting before the race to help pick the course, meet the competition, and get all your questions answered.
Ready to join the fleet? Mark your calendars for our upcoming 2026 weekends:
May 30–31
June 27–28
July 25–26
August 29–30
September 26–27
