I’m incredibly proud to have been asked to share my perspective on Fuel Fortress and why it stands above every other gym in Bowling Green and the surrounding area.
The community here is second to none. Everyone pushes each other to be better, and many of the people here have become some of my closest friends.
If you’re in a profession where your fitness is a non-negotiable, you owe it to yourself to train with people who take it seriously. This is where you elevate so you can perform when it counts for the people who depend on you.
If you’re a father, you already know the truth. You are your family’s protector at all times. That responsibility doesn’t come and go, it’s 24/7. Your wife and your children depend on your strength, your capability, and your readiness.
Fuel Fortress helps you rise to those standards. Not just through strength and conditioning, but also through skill development with Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that prepares you for real-world situations.
Come train with me sometime and experience the difference for yourself.

Most young men in middle school and high school tie their self worth to team sports: your playing time, your stats, your popularity, if the coach likes you, etc. If those things don’t go your way or you’re not gifted in those particular athletic sports, you feel like you failed.
I’m telling you right now, that’s the wrong foundation. There is NOTHING wrong with team sports. They build camaraderie, discipline, and memories. Yet, they should not define your value.
Instead, every young man should invest in individual pursuits such as lifting weights and martial arts. These two skills build your body, mindset, and character, where success depends on you alone. I recommend picking 1-2 disciplines from weight training and 1-2 disciplines from martial arts training. Examples include:
Bodybuilding
Muay Thai
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Strongman
Powerlifting
Boxing
Olympic Lifting
Wrestling
Etc.
These paths build real confidence because you earned it alone. They build your capability for strength, endurance, and toughness. They build your ability to defend yourself. They build accountability: no bench, no coach favoritism, just you vs. you.
You might not be the star quarterback or point guard at your school; but
you might have elite strength, knockout power, God given muscle building genetics, or capable of being dangerous on the mat. You won’t know until you try.
Team sports end after graduation for 99% of participants, but the above skills last a lifetime.
You can build muscle at 35+
You can hit a personal record lift when you’re 40+
You can hit the heavy bag at 50+
You can train jiu-jitsu at 60+
You can stay strong, capable, and confident for life.
So if you’re a young man struggling with where you fit in, stop chasing approval and start building yourself.
Because when it’s all said and done;
your strength, your skill, and your discipline will matter far more in life than a scoreboard ever did.

The man who clings to comfort never enters the arena or tastes victory. Accomplishment demands stepping forward into fear, because glory is only earned where failure is possible.

No better way to spend a Friday night than strangling your friends and being reminded how helpless you are against trained killers.
New Year’s Challenge: Train Your Body and Your Humility.
Make this the year you start lifting weights and train a martial art or two.
Bodybuilding, Powerlifting, Weightlifting, Strongman, and other forms of weight training will show you very quickly that you’re not as strong or physically capable as you thought you were.
Muay Thai, BJJ, Boxing, Wrestling, and other martial arts will do the same for your fighting ability, conditioning, and ego.
Both disciplines have a way of stripping away the illusion of competence. The bar doesn’t care about excuses. The mat doesn’t care about confidence. You’re forced to confront reality: where you are weak, where you lack skill, and how much you still have to learn.
And that’s the gift.
Through consistent training, you build real strength, real skill, and real confidence that is earned, not imagined.
Physically, you become harder to break. Mentally, you become more disciplined, more humble, and more resilient. You learn how to stay calm under pressure, how to fail repeatedly without quitting, and how to respect the process.
Both forms of training change how you carry yourself, how you think, and how you handle adversity.
If you’re looking for a New Year’s goal that actually transforms you physically and mentally, do two things: pick up heavy weight and learn how to fight.
