Redesigned to support even more performance with engine builds pushing over 135hp. The iconic Heavy Breather Air Cleaner features a forward-facing oiled cotton filter element that flows large volumes of clean air into the engine. The short, low profile cast tube rams the charge directly into the throttle body with little turbulence for increased power and torque, and the intake tube mounts to a custom back plate that features integral breathers and covers the throttle body electronics for a finished look. The 1966 Monte Carlo Rally is arguably the most controversial event in motorsport history. British BMC Mini-Coopers dominated the race, taking first, second, and third place, but officials sensationally disqualified them and several other cars over minor headlamp bulb rule technicalities, handing the victory to Citroën.
The Controversial Disqualifications
The defining drama of the 1966 rally took place after the final competitive stage. Officials disqualified the top four finishers—including Timo Mäkinen, Rauno Aaltonen, and Paddy Hopkirk in their Mini-Coopers, and Roger Clark's Ford Cortina.
The Reason: All the disqualified cars used non-dipping, single-filament quartz-iodine bulbs in their headlamps, rather than the standard double-filament dipping glass bulbs equipped on the series-production models sold to the public
The Aftermath: Ten cars were excluded in total, including Rosemary Smith's Hillman Imp (which had won the Coupe des Dames women's class).
The Winner: Citroën ID driver Pauli Toivonen was elevated to first place overall. He found the situation so embarrassing that he famously refused to accept the winner's award. [1]

The decision caused absolute uproar. The press quickly labeled the event the "Monte Carlo Fiasco" and a "carve-up".
