History check: Anna Jarvis wanted people to recognize and honor the women who held communities together. Not expensive cards, not picture perfect brunches, not any of the pop culture things that have replaced her original idea. Mother’s Day can be such treacherous territory for so many people. People who wanted to become mothers and life didn’t move that way, people with an estranged children, people whose mothers have died. Let’s instead acknowledge the people who do the work of caring for others.

After many meaningful years in this space, Reden will be closing its current studio location on May 31.

This decision comes from both thoughtful consideration and a clear sense that it is time for the next phase.

The work itself continues—just in a different form.

I’m deeply grateful for all that has been created here, and for the community that has shaped it.

More to come.

with metta,
Elizabeth

There are plants called fire followers (pyrophiles) that sprout and bloom after a wildfire has devastated a landscape. The heat and the nutrient rich ash quickens them to grow. It is possible to remember love even in devastation.

Parked outside of Reden and paused to eat a sandwich in my warm car, cozy & content. I was thinking how lovely it was to have a moment to myself with no distractions and no one needing anything from me. Ahhh… and then I saw him… 😳😳😳

Here in Central Ohio our weather is bouncing from mid 70s to low 20s on the regular. We keep our warm weather clothes, our winter hats, and our rain gear handy at all times.

One of the fundamental principles of a practice is adaptation. Adaptation allows us to be with the moment we are actually in, rather the moment we wish we were in or some strange disinformed narrative. (Yes, disinformed not misinformed.)

Get present with life as it is. Not how you wish it to be. Not how someone else is telling you it is. How is your body in this moment? How is your breath? Are you hungry? Thirsty? Stressed? Excited? Do you notice the beauty that exists alongside the muck? Notice what is, then respond accordingly.

So for today, feel your grief. Find a space where you can be quiet (or loud) and safe. Feel the sorrow, the anger, the frustration. Let it be acknowledged, by your dog, by the trees, by a friend, by the rain. Allow it to be digested. There is work to be done without carrying the burden, the loser keg, of unmetabolized grief.

Menopause Specialist ✅

Hello Reden Sangha! Those of you that have been in community with me for a while know the importance I place on continuing education. It helps me to be a better therapist and teacher by continuing to be a student.

Recently, I have wanted to be able to speak to the menopause transition with expertise and professionalism. While my high value on research has led me to read comprehensive books on the subject (future post coming), I also sought out a certification course. This training with was well-researched, evidence-based, and thorough. I am thrilled to announce that I’ve completed the training! Workshops and classes coming soon!
