The star power of Victor Wembanyama and Jalen Brunson helped this year's NBA Finals get off to a huge start in terms of viewership, the likes of which hadn't been seen since the last finals matchup between LeBron James and Stephen Curry eight years ago.
Game 1 of the finals matchup between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks averaged nearly 17 million viewers on Wednesday night, up 90% when compared to last season's finals Game 1. It was the most-watched Game 1 since 2018, the most recent time James -- then of Cleveland -- and Golden State's Curry faced off in the title round.
Wednesday's game had a peak audience of 19.63 million viewers around 11 p.m. EDT, which would have been in the fourth quarter of New York's 105-95 victory.

Forget “JB for 3.” How about for $4.9 million? That’s how much Jaylen Brown’s Fort Point penthouse is back on the market for.
The beloved Celtics star, whose name has been connected to several teams due to trade rumors, just re-listed his penthouse: PH501 at 49 Melcher St. But this time, it comes with a twist. The sale includes the adjacent studio residence, PH503, which Brown used while living there. Together, the 3,500-square-foot combination is on the market for $4,995,000; the monthly fee is $2,449. George Sarkis and Roy Bahnam of The Sarkis Team at Douglas Elliman have the listing.
The property was previously listed in 2024 for $4,750,000, when it included just the main penthouse, but it, instead, was rented out until now. Sarkis called the property “the MVP of townhouses.”

The hero of Alabama State's first NCAA Tournament win and three of his teammates on the 2024-25 team were ruled permanently ineligible for accepting payment from gamblers to fix the outcome of a game that season, the NCAA announced Friday.
Amarr Knox, Shawn Fulcher, Corey Hines and Tony Madlock were alleged to have engaged in game manipulation when Alabama State played at Southern Mississippi on Dec. 5, 2024. Southern Miss was a six-point favorite and won 81-64.
According to the NCAA, two known bettors offered the players a total of $2,000 to throw the game. The players accepted and were later paid.
