You don’t have to be flexible to do yoga.

You also don’t have to want to be flexible.

Flexibility is just one thing yoga can do for your body. But it’s not the point. And it’s definitely not a prerequisite.

Some people come to class for their back. Some for stress. Some because they sit at a desk all day and want to feel like a person again by Friday.

All of those are good enough reasons.

At Pocket Studio, we’re not trying to turn you into someone who can touch their toes.

We’re just trying to help you feel better in the body you have.

Come as you are. We’ll figure out the rest together. 💙

Your hips aren’t just tight because you sit at a desk.

The hip flexors and pelvis are deeply connected to your stress response. When we feel anxious, overwhelmed, or emotionally heavy — the body contracts. And if we never release it, it stays.

Poses like pigeon, lizard, and low lunge don’t just create physical space, they can unlock emotional tension that’s been sitting in the body for years.

It’s not uncommon to feel emotional in a deep hip stretch. That’s not weakness, that’s release.

Your body holds more than you realize. Yoga gives it permission to let go.

Save this as a reminder to move your body, even if it’s just to stretch.

If you fall asleep in savasana, here’s what you should do 👇

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

It happens in our studio pretty regularly, and every single time we consider it a win.

Swipe through the carousel above to learn why it’s actually a good sign, and what’s going on in your body when it happens.

A quick reminder you can use in any yoga class, and not just ours: You’re always allowed to modify.

If something doesn’t feel right in your body like too much pressure, wrong angle, just uncomfortable in a way that doesn’t feel useful — you can change it. No explanation needed. No waiting for permission.

Here are a few of the most common adjustments we teach, and when to use them.

Yoga is supposed to work for your body, not the other way around.

What brought you to your first class? We’ve heard a lot of answers to this question.

A bad back that wasn’t getting better.

A friend who said “just try it once.”

Stress that had nowhere to go.

Curiosity that sat quietly in the back of their head for years.

A hard season they were trying to move through.

Whatever brought you to your first class, we’re glad you came.

What was yours? Drop it in the comments below, we’d genuinely love to know. 💙

What do you actually do with your hands in a yoga class?

Genuinely — nobody tells you this before your first class. And then you’re in warrior II with your arms out and you’re not sure if they should be higher or lower or if your palms are supposed to face up or down and suddenly that’s the only thing you can think about.

So here’s a quick breakdown of the most common moments people quietly panic about.

And if you’ve ever spent half a class looking sideways to figure this out — that’s completely normal. We’ve all been there. 😉

Here’s something most people don’t know when they start yoga → flexibility and mobility are not the same thing, and flexibility is actually the less useful of the two.

Flexibility is passive. Mobility is yours to control.

And yoga is one of the best ways to build real, functional mobility because every pose asks your body to move through a full range of motion with strength and intention behind it.

That’s why ‘I’m not flexible enough’ is never a reason to skip yoga. It’s actually the best reason to start.

Our studio holds 6 people. That’s not a limitation — that’s the whole point.

When a class is small, things feel different.

There’s more room to move.

More space to go at your own pace.

And a quieter, more personal atmosphere where you can actually hear yourself think.

No packed rooms. No feeling like you’re in someone’s way. No rushing through to get to
the next student.

Just you, a small group, and a teacher who actually has time for you.

Come and visit Pocket Studio is in Hamtramck, we’d love to have you. Click the link in our bio to sign up for a class.
