Everyone at Boston Boxing Promotions would like to offer their condolences to the friends & family of noted local trainer Joe Ricciardi who we've been informed has passed away.

Ricciardi worked with a profusion of local fighters including former Boston Boxing Promotions "Fighter of the Year" James Perkins and fan-favorites like Kenny Larson during the course of his career. He has been involved in Boston Boxing Promotions shows as early as the very first show in Dorchester in 2013.

Perhaps his most famous work was being the lead trainer of Greg Vendetti (23-6-1, 12 KO's) for his entire career including his 2020 challenge for the WBA Super Welterweight World Championship against Erislandy Lara (Current Record - 32-3-3, 19 KO's) in Los Angeles in a fight that was broadcast nationally in primetime on FOX network television.

Ricciardi was uniquely both a no-nonsense kind of guy while also being colorful and full of personality. He was a cast member on the short-lived TV show "The Fighters" on Discovery Channel in which UFC President Dana White served as Executive Producer.

When you get your Dunkin Donuts morning coffee, take a sip and toast to Joe Ricciardi...... he will be missed.

🥊 This Day in New England Boxing History - September 23, 1952

On this day 74 years ago, Brockton, Massachusetts' Rocky Marciano (49-0, 43 KO's) won the world heavyweight championship with a brutal 13th round knockout in a come from behind effort to dethrone Jersey Joe Walcott (Career Record - 49-20-1, 31 KO's) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Marciano would KO Walcott once again in his first title defense the following year in Chicago. He is the only heavyweight champion in history to retire undefeated and never come back to boxing again. He is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Joey Spencer (22-2, 12 KO's) won a 10-round majority decision over Jocksan Blanco (11-1, 4 KO's) Saturday night in his hometown of Flint, Michigan.

Blanco, despite officially taking a loss, looked sharp and in fantastic shape noticeably rocking his opponent as early as the opening round and finished strong.

Taking a competitive decision loss against an accomplished opponent in their literal hometown certainly doesn't mean this is the end for Blanco.

This minor setback just creates the opportunity for a comeback!

Good job Jocksan and we're always in your corner.
