At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, athletes faced strict rules about advertising. Reebok had reportedly paid around $50 million to become the official sponsor of the Olympics. Because of this, athletes were not allowed to promote rival sports brands during the Games.
British sprinter Linford Christie was sponsored by Puma. According to reports, he was even told he could not display a Puma tattoo because it promoted a competing company. The Olympic rules were designed to protect official sponsors from free publicity for their rivals.
One day before his first 100-meter race, Christie attended a private Puma press conference. Wearing dark sunglasses, he stood before reporters and smiled. Holding the microphone, he joked that officials had banned his tattoo and made athletes sign declarations about not showing brand logos. Then he surprised everyone by saying he had found an even better idea.
Christie slowly removed his sunglasses.
The room fell silent for a moment before cameras began flashing. Instead of ordinary contact lenses, Christie was wearing custom-made navy blue contact lenses with Puma's famous leaping cat logo printed in the center of each eye. It was a bold and unexpected way to show support for his sponsor without wearing any visible Puma clothing.
Photos of the moment quickly spread around the world. The stunt became one of the most famous examples of "ambush marketing," where a brand gains attention during a major event without being an official sponsor.
The incident sparked widespread debate and led Olympic officials to enforce their sponsorship and branding rules more strictly in future Games. Nearly three decades later, Linford Christie's Puma contact lenses are still remembered as one of the boldest and most creative marketing moments in sports history.

Janet Criss, 14, just became the No. 1 middle school sprinter in the United States and she earned it with one of the strongest youth track seasons in the country.
Criss, a native of California, broke multiple meet records last week at the AAU West Coast Nationals in Reno. She ran 11.74 in the 100 meters and 23.97 in the 200 meters, resetting the meet record twice in two days. Last month, she followed that performance by beating high school athletes at Nike Outdoor Nationals with an 11.78 finish.
This fall, Criss will enter high school where she'll be ready for the next level of competition.
This summer, she will compete at the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics in Southern California. The event will take place July 27 โ August 2.
Her family says the opportunity is a dream but travel and competition costs are high. A GoFundMe created by the family is helping support her journey.

Trayvon Bromell turns thirty-one in July. He has been in and out of world finals for the better part of a decade.
In Paris, he took back the lane. Bromell ran 9.91 to beat Noah Lyles by a single hundredth. He did it from lane eight, with no rival in his peripheral vision.
The reaction times told the story. Bromell left the blocks in 0.131. Lyles, by his own admission, mish*t his start at 0.160. That gap is unforgivable inside ten seconds.
Marcell Jacobs, the Tokyo Olympic champion, was third in 9.96. Akani Simbine ran 9.97 for fourth. Five men went under ten. The fastest was the oldest.
It is Bromell's first Diamond League win of the season and the first defeat Lyles has suffered all year. The rematch is in Eugene next Saturday.
The American 100 just got a second front-runner. He has been here the whole time.

New York Jets linebacker Demario Davis is rewriting the blueprint for athletic longevity as he enters his 15th NFL season.
At 37 years old, Davis remains one of the most durable players in football history, having missed only a single game in his entire career.
The secret behind his incredible durability is a massive financial and personal investment, with Davis spending nearly $1 million annually on a dedicated six person team and advanced physical recovery methods.
Viewing his body as his business, Davis follows a strict routine of constant training, hyper focused recovery, and a specialized anti inflammatory diet prepared by a personal chef.
His elite preparation has firmly placed him among the top 10 linebackers in NFL history for total games played. By treating his physical health as his primary asset, Davis continues to perform at the highest level well past the age when most players have walked away from the game.
