Parents and dancers, consider this your friendly reminder: START YOUR PERFORMANCE CHECKLIST NOW!

We all know the excitement of show week comes with a few natural stressors. Between Tech Week, dress rehearsals, school schedules, and everyday life, things can get BUSY!

A little preparation NOW can make a BIG difference later.

✅ Costumes: Check fit, alterations, and required undergarments.

✅ Dance Shoes: Make sure they're performance-ready and properly fitted.

✅ Hair & Makeup: Review requirements and gather supplies.

✅ Accessories: Tights, hairnets, bobby pins, and anything specific to your dancer's role.

✅ Schedules: Mark rehearsals, Tech Week, dress rehearsals, and performance dates on your calendar.

✅ Transportation: Plan your drop-offs, pickups, and arrival times.

✅ Tickets: Don't wait until the last minute to invite family and friends!

✅ Dancer Essentials: Pack water, approved snacks, and a clearly labeled dance bag.

✅ Rest & Wellness: Keep your dancer rested, hydrated, and ready to give their best!

Meet Naomi, one of our talented Umbiance seniors, bringing confidence, versatility, and personality to our Company Photoshoot! 📸✨

From the precision and discipline of Pointe, to the energy of Hip-Hop, the expression of Jazz, and the rich cultural movement of African Dance, Naomi is a beautifully well-rounded performer.

PRODUCTION REHEARSALS: LAYING THE GROUNDWORK!

Before the costumes, the lights, and the applause, there's WORK to be done!

At Umbiance, production rehearsals are underway, and we're starting with something essential: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT! 🎭

Our students are learning that performing is more than memorizing lines, mastering choreography, or hitting their marks. It's about understanding the character, embracing the story, and bringing purpose to every movement and expression.

And isn't that a lesson in life AND faith?

Just as a character must be developed before the story comes to life, our own character is developed through preparation, patience, discipline, and growth.

The audience may see the finished production, but The Most High sees the work happening behind the scenes!

Before there were studios, stages, competitions or eight counts, there was movement.
Across cultures and throughout history, people have danced to worship, celebrate, mourn, tell stories, build community and express what words could not.
Every culture has contributed something meaningful to the art of dance—and the story of dance in America cannot be told without recognizing the extraordinary contributions of Black people and the African diaspora.
African rhythms, movement traditions and cultural expression profoundly influenced American dance and helped shape forms such as tap, jazz, modern dance, hip-hop, stepping and social dance. Black pioneers like Katherine Dunham and Alvin Ailey broke barriers, created new movement languages and expanded what was possible on the concert stage.
Today, dancers from every background continue that story—learning from one another, honoring the traditions that came before them and bringing their own experiences and creativity to the floor.
And that's something we see right here at Umbiance.
Our students come from different cultures, backgrounds and experiences, but when they enter the studio, there is room for every one of them to learn, grow, create and belong.
We don't just teach steps.
We honor the history.
We celebrate the cultures.
We develop the artist.
And we prepare the next generation to add THEIR chapter to the story.
Because dance belongs to all of us—but honoring everyone also means remembering who helped shape the art we enjoy today. ❤️🖤💛

THE HEIGHT YOU SEE IS BUILT IN THE WORK YOU DON’T.

The extension.
The control.
The strength.
The confidence.

What looks effortless in a photograph was built through practice, correction, repetition, discipline—and showing up again.
There is a lesson in that far beyond the dance floor:
You don't have to see the results immediately to know the work is producing something.

Dancers, keep stretching.
Keep training.
Keep receiving the correction.
Keep reaching higher.
