Frisco Hockey family — today we want to take a moment to honor the legacy of Peter John Courcy and reflect on why the Peter Courcy Service Award means so much to all of us.

Peter wasn’t just a great hockey player — he was the kind of person every team hopes to have in their locker room. A leader at Frisco High School, team captain, and someone teammates and coaches deeply respected, Peter was known as the “glue” of the team. He led with humility, strength, and heart, always putting others before himself and making everyone around him better.

After high school, Peter continued his life of service by joining the U.S. Army in July 2006. He deployed to Afghanistan in March 2008 with the 101st Airborne Division and was tragically killed in action at just 22 years old — only weeks before he was scheduled to come home to North Texas to reunite with his wife and infant son.

Even years later, Peter’s impact is still deeply felt throughout Frisco and within our hockey community. His jersey remains the only jersey retired at the Comerica Center in Frisco — a lasting reminder of the teammate, leader, soldier, and person he was. His name also lives on through the American Legion Post in Frisco and the road leading into Memorial Park.

The Peter Courcy Service Award is about more than hockey. It recognizes the player who represents what Peter stood for: leadership, service, character, sacrifice, and always putting teammates and community first.

If you’ve ever been part of Frisco Hockey, then you know — this family is built on much more than the game itself. And Peter’s legacy will always be part of that foundation. ❤️🏒
