📱🚨 Traffickers don’t have to drive around LOOKING for vulnerable kids anymore.

They can sit on their BUTT, pick up a phone, and potentially reach countless young people online.

Think about that.

Social media, gaming platforms, DMs, disappearing messages, fake profiles… technology has given predators the ability to cast a MUCH wider net. 🎣

They can start conversations, test boundaries, look for vulnerabilities, build trust, and move on to the next person, all without ever leaving the couch.

That’s why we HAVE to stop thinking online safety is optional. 👏

Know who your kids are talking to.
Know what platforms they’re using.
Talk about grooming BEFORE they encounter it.
And make sure they know 🚩 attention from a stranger online isn’t always as innocent as it seems.

⚖️ What happens when a human trafficking case reaches a jury… but the jury doesn’t understand human trafficking?

They may be expecting a victim who was kidnapped. Someone physically chained or locked away.

Someone who immediately asked law enforcement for help.

But trafficking doesn’t always look like that. 🚨

Victims may return to their trafficker. They may defend them. They may be afraid to cooperate with law enforcement. They may have experienced manipulation, threats, coercion, or trauma that isn’t immediately obvious to someone hearing the case.

And THAT is why awareness matters. ⚖️

Jurors bring their own expectations and misconceptions into the courtroom. When we don’t understand what exploitation, coercion, and victimization can actually look like, we may miss what is happening right in front of us.

Human trafficking awareness isn’t JUST for law enforcement. 👏 It’s something ALL of us can benefit from understanding.

📱🚨 Your child doesn’t have to leave the house for a dangerous person to reach them.

They can be sitting on the couch. In their bedroom. Playing a game. Scrolling social media.

And someone you’ve NEVER met could be building a relationship with them through that screen.

Predators can use social media, gaming platforms, messaging apps, and fake profiles to gain trust, push boundaries, and eventually move conversations into places parents may never see. 👀

That’s why online safety can’t just be, “Don’t talk to strangers.”

We have to TALK to our kids. 🗣️
We have to know what apps they’re using. 📲
We have to teach them what suspicious behavior actually looks like. 🚩
And we have to make sure they know they can come to us when something feels wrong, without being afraid they’ll immediately lose their phone.

This should scare everyone.⏰

I'm one detective. One small part of the world. And I've already had to reinvestigate four men I personally helped put in jail or prison for trafficking — Pimps who went right back to trafficking victims the moment they got out.

That's not a failure of one case. That's a pattern.

And when victims watch a trafficker walk free and start again, they learn something we never want them to learn: that putting someone in a cage doesn't actually stop them. Especially when that cage still comes with mail, phone calls, video visits, and now tablets.

Accountability can't end at conviction. It has to include what happens after.

Jail time isn't the finish line. It's not even close.

One of the biggest misconceptions about human trafficking is believing it only happens somewhere else. 🌎

Another country. Another state. Another community.

But human trafficking is happening HERE, across the United States. 🇺🇸 And one of the problems we continue to face is that human trafficking training isn’t standard practice for every law enforcement officer.

How can we expect officers to recognize the signs, identify victims, and effectively investigate these cases if they aren’t given the specialized training to do so?

💰 To a pimp, it's about the money.

Traffickers may set strict quotas that victims are expected to meet, sometimes demanding a certain amount of money every single day. 💵⏰

And when that quota isn't reached? Victims may face threats, punishment, violence, or increased pressure to keep working.

This is another way traffickers maintain control. The victim isn't making their own choices; the trafficker is deciding how much money they must bring in and what happens if they don't. 🚩

Understanding these dynamics is critical because trafficking doesn't always look like someone physically being held captive. Sometimes the chains are fear, manipulation, and impossible demands. 🧠💔

💔 Imagine someone slowly taking away everything that makes you feel like you have a way out.

Your money 💵, your ID 🪪, your support system, your independence, even your belief that anyone will help you.

Traffickers use fear, manipulation, and isolation to make victims feel completely stuck. 😔 They may believe leaving isn't an option, asking for help is too dangerous, or no one will understand what they're going through.

Sometimes, their chance at getting help starts with someone else recognizing the signs. 👀🚩
That's why awareness matters. You may see something a victim is too afraid to say out loud. 💙
