This Day in Ag History | October 1

On this day in 1889, George A. Joy of Bismarck, Dakota Territory, received a patent for a header attachment designed for harvesters and binders.

The invention allowed farmers to convert a binder into a header, helping them harvest short or overripe grain without needing a separate machine.
