ā€œBe on That Hillā€
by Seth Wickersham Seth Wickersham

What hill are you willing to climb?

Seth Wickersham’s ā€˜Be on That Hill’ takes readers inside the lives of athletes and competitors who continually push toward something bigger—through the sacrifice, pressure, uncertainty and challenges that come with pursuing excellence.

The lesson goes beyond sports:

The goal isn’t simply to reach the top. It’s to become the person capable of climbing the hill again and again.

There will always be another hill.
Another challenge.
Another opportunity to get better.

At Alpha, we believe in the process. We embrace the work. We keep climbing.

Find your hill.
Commit to the climb.
Be on that hill.

1ļøāƒ£ What is your ā€œgo toā€ pre-game meal or snack?

ā€œMy go to pre game meal is a bagel with peanut butter and an egg.ā€

2ļøāƒ£ Sleep is important. During the season how many hours of sleep do you average per night?

ā€œI get around 8 hours of sleep per night.ā€

3ļøāƒ£ What does post-competition recovery look like for you?

ā€œI like to use compression boots, drink a protein shake and eat a protein filled meal.ā€

4ļøāƒ£ What does being mentally tough mean to you?

ā€œBeing mentally tough means continuing to push forward even when things get hard. By staying confident in myself, learning from mistakes, and not letting setbacks put me down, my game improves.ā€

5ļøāƒ£ What makes you a coachable player?!

ā€œWhat makes me a coachable player is that I am willing to listen, learn, and make adjustments when coaches give me feedback. I try to apply feedback right away, even when it means changing something I have been doing because my coaches see things that I might be missing. I want my coaches to see me as someone willing to learn and get better!ā€

ALPHA MINDSET

SHOWING UP ISN’T ENOUGH.

Future Michigan State volleyball player Mallory Wandell showed up bright and early at 6am, ready to work.

But being here is only the beginning.

The difference is intention.

Every rep matters.
Every movement has a purpose.
Every challenge is an opportunity to get better.

Don’t just move. TRAIN.

LOCK IN. ATTACK THE WORK. TRAIN WITH INTENTION.

šŸ“š ALPHA BOOK OF THE WEEK:

ā€œDevelopmental To Division 1ā€
By Missy Mitchell-McBeth Missy Mitchell-McBeth - Volleyball Strength Coach šŸ

What does it take to develop a volleyball athlete from the developmental level to Division I?

It takes more than simply getting stronger.

Missy Mitchell-McBeth’s Developmental To Division 1 provides a comprehensive framework for developing volleyball athletes from the ground up—covering everything from fundamental movement patterns to advanced strength, plyometrics, agility, speed, resilience, and injury prevention.

What we especially like about this book is its long-term development mindset.

The goal isn’t to make an athlete look advanced today.

The goal is to build the physical qualities, movement skills, durability, and training habits that allow an athlete to continue developing tomorrow.

With 60+ video demonstrations through QR codes, the book also provides practical resources that athletes, coaches, and parents can take directly into their training environment.

Development is a process.

Build the foundation.
Master the basics.
Progress with purpose.
Train the qualities your sport demands.
Stay healthy enough to keep developing.

Because Division I isn’t built in a single season.

It’s built one movement, one rep, one practice, and one year at a time.

šŸ’„ Alpha Mindset

Our Training System is:

BATTLE TESTED. ATHLETE APPROVED.

Anyone can tell you their training program works.

We’d rather show you.

At Alpha Human Performance, our training isn’t built around theories, trends, or what looks good on social media.

It’s built through years of working with real athletes.

Athletes who have trained.
Athletes who have competed.
Athletes who have been challenged.
Athletes who have succeeded.
Athletes who have failed, learned, adapted, and come back stronger.

That’s where our system is tested.

On the court.
On the field.
On the track.
In competition.
When the pressure is real.

And when our athletes feel the difference in their strength, speed, confidence, movement, resilience, and performance—

they become the approval.

We don’t need to tell athletes what Alpha can do.

Our athletes tell the story.

That’s why we’re not just Alpha Human Performance.

We are:

BATTLE TESTED. ATHLETE APPROVED.

Train HERE. Train ANYWHERE.

šŸ“š ALPHA BOOK OF THE WEEK-

A Mindful Journey: An Adventure of Discovery & Transformation

by Coach VJ | Mental Performance Coach & Speaker

What happens when a 22-year-old professional basketball player leaves everything familiar behind and moves 6,000 miles away to Greece?

That’s where Vera Jo Bustos’ A Mindful Journey begins.

Bustos takes us inside her experience playing professional basketball overseas—giving us a firsthand look at Greece, its culture, and the challenges of trying to find your way in a completely unfamiliar environment.

But this isn’t simply a book about basketball.

It’s about what happens inside the athlete when things don’t go according to plan.

Bustos writes honestly about:

šŸ€ Playing professional basketball in Greece

šŸŒ Adapting to a new culture and learning a new language

🧠 Self-doubt and the mental challenges of competition

šŸ  Homesickness and loneliness

šŸ’Ŗ Dealing with constant defeat

šŸ¤ The power of connection with others

šŸ”Ž Discovering who you are—and who you are becoming

One of the most powerful themes in the book is Bustos’ realization that defeat isn’t a dead end.

Sometimes, it’s a detour.

Throughout the story, she weaves in the mental skills, training, wisdom and lessons she used to navigate her experience—not just as an athlete, but as a person.

And that’s what makes A Mindful Journey such a great Alpha book.

Because at Alpha, we don’t believe performance is only about what you can do physically.

The athlete is the person.

How you respond to adversity.
How you handle failure.
How you talk to yourself.
How you learn.
How you grow.

Those things matter just as much as the next rep, sprint or jump.

A Mindful Journey is a reminder that sometimes the greatest transformation happens when you find yourself far outside your comfort zone.

šŸ“– Read the book. Take the journey.

Win the Inside Game.
