Your course looks and plays great! Good luck on the future. I will be Back!!!
With the city purchase of the country club, what's the plan for the pool memberships? I'm interested. Thanks!
Question..is the pool going to be open this year of no because of covid?
I hope y'all didn't get hit to bad...
I hope that the Golf for Miracles Fundraiser has been told about the construction across the street from the course. The deforestation should be in full force by April 17th 2020. And the traffic will be a nightmare with all the heavy machinery coming and going. Not to mention the noise level. The golf course will be less than peaceful for more than year before the new subdivision is completed. Yes, another subdivision approved by the City of Greer. For anyone reading this post please be aware of the influx of coyotes, deer and other wild animals running across Gap Creek Rd onto the Golf Course. They have no where to go once the deforestation begins except the homes nearby and the Golf Course.
Would love to get a couple of actual golf scorecards from your course. Russ Glasson, 170 Carriage Hill Dr., Wethersfield, CT. 06109
Attempting to leave a review but I am not able. No offense to anybody working there, but the course is in horrible shape. Fairways are dirt tracks and almost every green is scalped. The 12th hole par 5 is set up as a par 3 today for some odd reason. I should have asked questions when the rate to ride 18 today was $30. With so many great courses in the update, I don’t see myself coming back.

The golf course remains open and has implemented special policies, in response to COVID-19. Give us a call for tee times and additional information.

Greer Country Club was founded in 1955 as a 9 hole course. In the years to come the club was expanded to 18 holes and added a swimming pool. The course has undergone several renovations, the latest being the clubhouse which we broke ground on Thursday, September 8th 2008. Martha's Kitchen serves breakfast and lunch 7 days a week and a Sunday buffett lunch. Our course has Bermuda grass fairways with plush Diamond Zoysia greens and has earned the title “A shot makers course”. The course is considered one of the more playable and better conditioned courses in the upstate. Our members pride themselves in making all who visit feel right at home by promoting a friendly, family, and southern atmosphere. If you are considering membership to a club we hope you’ll consider Greer Golf & Country Club and become a part of our next fifty five years.

9 days later...
Trust the process 🦾

Sprigging grass isn’t for the impatient 🤪.

These pics are from last week, which was week 4 of an 11 week growing process.

We are 3 fertilizer applications in, with 8 applications remaining over the next 7 weeks. Time to NITRO(gen) and GROW!

Trust the process. #Tahoma31

Comparison pic of sod from the back 9 on the course...

Sprigging of Tahoma 31 Bermuda Grass on the back 9 has commenced!

Now- LET IT GROW!!!☀️ 💦 🍃🌱

Better grass on tees and fairways- ✔️
Larger and additional tee boxes- ✔️
Making YOUR golf course better- ✔️

*Contractor: Benson Construction Co., Tifton Ga.
*Supplier- New Life Turf, Norway SC

Don’t worry front 9, we ❤️ you too! Much needed fertilizer was applied a couple weeks ago to prepare for the extra play this summer.

During our renovation of the back 9 holes, there may be days when you are asked to play the front 9 holes twice, or skip certain holes on the back (depending on where our contractors are working).

We will make every attempt to keep the back 9 open during this project so you can see the progress, but please call the Pro Shop at (864) 877-9279 before visiting to find out the daily conditions. ⛳️ 🏌️‍♀️ 🏌🏽

Yes- the fairway and tee box grass on the back 9 is dying 🙁- but it’s on purpose😁!!!

⚠️🚜⚒🚜 ⛳️ 🏌️‍♀️ 🏌🏾‍♂️🏌🏽🛺

Look closely at the first pic- notice the darker brown grass in the middle...that’s “Common Bermuda Grass” and is the same type Bermuda Grass you may have in your yard. It’s a darker brown because the grass is so thin you can see the dirt underneath it. Great for golf courses in 1955 when original construction took place- but not so much today.

The lighter yellow grass surrounding the Common is “419 Bermuda Grass”, a hybrid Bermuda developed around 40 years ago. 419 is a thicker type of Bermuda with faster recovery/regrowth rate and denser canopy that is designed specifically for sports turf. This is the type of grass that we have on most of our baseball, soccer and football fields. Ideally, we would have liked 100% of our fairways and tee boxes to be covered in 419, but that’s just not the case.

Our greens are great...they are 5 year old Diamond Zoysia putting greens, and they deserve to be complimented by plush, thick fairways and tee boxes.

So how do we remedy this situation?

We started by making this project a top priority when the City acquired the golf course, because we understand that grass is the most important element of the course to golfers. We researched types of grass and decided to go with “Tahoma 31 Bermuda Grass” for our project. Google it for more info, but in short- Tahoma 31 is one of the latest and greatest Bermuda Grass hybrids available for purchase. It was developed at Oklahoma State University and has been on the market for only a couple years. Tahoma 31 has an even denser canopy than previous hybrid versions of Bermuda (419, Latitude, TifTuf, etc.), but it also greens up earlier in the Spring & stays green later into the Fall, it is more drought tolerant than other Bermuda Grasses (only needing 75% of the water that 419 requires), and it’s also more shade tolerant (meaning it survives in shaded areas other Bermuda Grasses usually don’t).

We then engaged Jeff Lawrence (well respected Golf Architect from Lawrence Golf Design), put together a scope of work for contractors, and advertised for bids.
Last Tuesday- Greer City Council approved awarding the bid to Benson Construction Co. (Ga.) in the amount of $126,000 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼!!!Benson Construction has an extensive history of successful golf renovations on courses throughout the southeastern United States for decades. Their scope of work will be on the back 9 holes and include sodding Tahoma 31 on the most commonly used tee boxes, and sprigging Tahoma 31 on the less used tee boxes & all of the fairways. Our architect also identified tee boxes that need to be constructed, expanded, and/or deleted (see additional pics) and those tees will be a part of Benson Construction’s scope as well. We expect them to be on site within the next few weeks. Sprigs have to be planted before July 15 (weather permitting) and sodding will follow the sprigging. At the end of this project, our course will be the first in our region to have Tahoma 31 on all fairways and tee boxes! 🦾 🥇

It is CRUCIAL that we protect our investment by not allowing golf carts or play on the areas affected by this project (tee boxes and fairways). While we are undergoing renovation, it is our intent to keep the back 9 open, but only play those holes as Par 3’s. Additionally, we anticipate there may be days and times that certain holes or the back 9 all together may be temporarily closed. We will communicate those times through social media and posted schedules in the pro shop- but we are asking for your support and patience during this renovation!

It is our intent to provide the absolute best golf course to our patrons, and this can only be achieved by following the guidelines set forth by our staff, architect and contractor. Weather permitting, and if all goes well, we anticipate completely opening the back 9 for full play by the beginning of October.

We plan to repeat this process for the front 9 holes next year. We decided to do the back 9 first, because we are evaluating options for a few different holes on the front to improve slope and drainage.

This is just the latest of big improvements by the City of Greer for the course, but it’s certainly not the last! Please share this post and help us spread the word about the City of Greer’s commitment to Greer Golf and the upgrades being made to YOUR golf course!

40” of rain 🌧 this year- but it has to stop some time!
When it does, we won’t have to worry about our course being dry...
This is our latest upgrade- A dual US 480 volt 3 phase motor and 16 ft submersible vertical turbine pump system (AKA- brand new irrigation pump and motor) that will provide more than enough water to our entire course through irrigation! 🦾
Hope that new Tahoma 31 grass likes it!

🔥🔥🔥We’ve had a lot of questions and comments about new carts for the course- so here you go!!!🔥🔥🔥

1st look 👀 at the new carts that will be onsite within the next few weeks!

These carts are provided by ClubCar, will be this same color scheme, and will have a GPS “Cart Control” option that will make our operation much more cost efficient and safe.

Each cart will contain intergrated technology that will allow us to:
- Prevent carts from going places they shouldn’t be (woods, ponds, tee boxes, greens, etc.) by adding a geofence (map) of the course that controls where carts can and cannot go. This alone will save us thousands of dollars in repairs each year.
- It will give us the ability to lock carts to the cart path (on cart path only days), and will prevent cart damage to the turf on our course and save money on those turf repairs.
- Require golfers to check in the pro shop before playing because the cart will have to be activated by staff before being used (cut down on persons trying to use carts without paying and allow us to collect cart fees that we’ve missed in the past.)
- Track usage of each cart so we can make sure carts with the most battery life are being used, and alleviate the problem of carts going dead during rounds.

Keep checking this page as more information about the course, upgrades and operational information will be posted periodically over the next few weeks!

Hope to see you on the course soon!
