Doubled today
Last week felt like a ghost town for me. This week the magic returned at 8:00 AM Saturday April 25th foggy morning after an overnight storm front moved through. Skies started opening up and the woods lit up like thunder. Multiple birds gobbling for over an hour playing cat and mouse until this bird had to come see. He gobbled his head off.
I’ve hunted turkey ever since I could drive myself to a county in Kentucky that had a turkey season, that be about 40 years. I can tell you as long as I’ve been hunting them I have learned something new every single year. I talked to an elder gentleman that’s 80 years old and he told me something he has noticed over the years that around the 20th of April each year in Tennessee the hens hit the nest hard and the Toms start getting fired back up again. He’s right it seems like every year that is true for me as well. The other thing is when birds don’t gobble hunters quite early or just don’t go. Ticks and chiggers are out and that makes it uncomfortable.
Stick to it, you learn more from going than staying at the house belly aching.
Smash those coyotes if you are not hearing gobbling it could be because you have a predator problem. If you have one that’s one to many. Those birds will not get vocal if they are in fear and usually will not stick around to get eaten. We all need to continue to reduce our predator population.
