Preplanning is a critical set of behaviors to engage in to increase the odds that you will exercise and stick to your plan.
In my case, I committed to a half-marathon one month out. I needed to work backwards to balance CrossFit days with targeted mileage leading up to the race.
I love tech, but sometimes paper and highlights do the trick.
Green = committed and executed day
Yellow = non-executed day
I won’t graph this sheet but it serves as a physical tool to manage my workouts throughout the month and reflect on how accurate I followed my plan.
Unfortunately, Hurricane Lowell forced race officials to cancel the race but I ran on that day anyhow.
I mean, how many chances do you get to run in Hawaii?!?!
(I hope everyone in Kauai is doing okay with the cleanup ❤️ 🏝️)

Kauai Marathon/Half Marathon got cancelled at the last minute for hurricane 🌀 prep.
Kinda bummed that the race didn’t happen considering I left Hawaiʻi Association for Behavior Analysis looking forward to it.
Stay safe everyone one.
Flying out tonight ahead of Hurricane Lowell.

🌈 🌴 Final Day Complete of the Hawaii Association for Behavior Analysis Conference 2026 is in the books!
So nice to reconnect with my Hawaiian colleagues and hear some fantastic talks!
✅ Second Run around Diamond Head Crater
✅ Presented Poster
✅ Made new connections
✅ Saw a real cool radar graph measuring different verbal operants
💡A few nuggets from today:
Gloria Leyla Fanning Tacoaman, M.S., BCBA., LABA gave an interesting talk on how to evaluate teaching language across bilingual learners - she tested how training in English vs. Spanish resulted in English or Spanish answers. Super cool stuff!
Shane T. Spiker, PhD, BCBA-D brought it home reminding us that compassion can be a learned skill by breaking it down into different domains. We can learn how to be more culturally sensitive, improve problem solving, and get better at time management to name a few.
Mahalo to the fantastic team that put together another great conference!

Live Scoring at World Fitness Project Tour Stop 2: Reps, No Reps, and Where The Counts Break Down
Every rep you see climb the World Fitness Project leaderboard passes through a human thumb on a phone screen. I spent a weekend as one of those thumbs — live scoring lane 3 at Tour Stop 2 — and learned exactly where a real-time rep count breaks down. Six culprits, from mis-taps to mental drift to judges quietly using different standards. Here’s what keeping score under controlled chaos taught me about measurement, accuracy, and trust....

Summer Heat: A Stimulus To Manage While We Exercise
Heat got you down? Think of it as another variable to manage in your fitness routine....

Maria crushed her first training session — high-fives, sweat, the works.
But a month later, she quit.
It wasn't laziness. It wasn't lack of motivation. Her trainer built an aversive learning history — too much too soon, constant yelling, and zero individualization.
Your past fitness experiences are shaping your workouts right now, whether you realize it or not. A history full of positive reinforcement? You probably have a solid routine. A history full of painful, punishing experiences? Your environment failed you — not the other way around.
The good news? It can be rebuilt. 🔗
