Robin Juillaguet’s days are spent constantly thinking about running, performance and optimizing the gear needed for the toughest trails. But unlike those surrounding him who do this as professional athletes, Robin does it as part of his career in the Salomon HQ Product Testing team.
 
Yesterday, he combined his expertise with months of hard training to produce a sublime 2nd place on the famously gruelling terrain of Diagonale Des Fous. In running, everyone gets a shot to challenge for the podium. Robin shows us that we shouldn’t be afraid to take that shot.

One of the world’s toughest races.  
Two of the world’s toughest athletes.  

La Mascareignes traverses from the center of Reunion Island to the coast, including the notorious Cirque de Mafate a volcanic caldera that makes underfoot conditions extremely technical. For adaptive athletes, this is largely uncharted territory, but Julien Veysseyre and never shy away stepping into the unknown. 74km. 3,800m elevation. Done.

A dream debut: Robin Juillaguet takes 2nd at Diagonale des Fous.   
  
Literally translated as “Madmen’s Diagonal”, Diagonale des Fous rewards the dreamers, those who believe in the seemingly impossible. Robin did that today. In his debut 100-miler, he put together the perfect race, paced like a veteran, not a first timer, he moved from 18th at 33 kilometers, to 10th at Sentier Scout, 96 km into the race, to 2nd by the finish.

A member of our R&D team at Salomon HQ, we couldn’t be prouder to call him a teammate. Félicitations, Robin.

Running constantly asks questions of us: Can you keep going? How much are you willing to endure? But what happens when running becomes a way to help us answer questions about life?

In the latest film on Salomon TV, GO by Jack Hare, documents how Go Miyazaki turned the devastating loss of a friend, and the subsequent questions it forced him to ask himself, into a mission to help others.

Back in the battle.

After nearly 100km of racing through the tropical night, Thibaut is showing he hasn’t missed a step, he’s running in 5th at Diagonale des Fous and looking strong. The toughest terrain is still to come, and the mind and body will be challenged, but this is the test he’s been craving. He has the strength to chase hard in the 70km to the finish. Allez Thibaut!

A uniquely brutal, beautiful challenge.

After both competing at UTMB, Para-team athletes and Julien Veysseyre will be lining up for the 74km La Mascareignes, part of Grand Raid Reunion. Ahead they’ll meet technical island terrain over a course that is challenging and inspiring in equal measure, and continuing to forge a pathway for adaptive athletes to follow.

Sport gives, and it takes away.
 
After nearly two years on the sidelines, Thibaut Baronian will make a return to racing on the trails at Diagonale des Fous. Injury tested his relationship with running, but for him it meant he could strip the minutiae of performance away from racing, giving him a freedom to race with his heart. 

He will be supported by Marianne Hogan , who was forced to withdraw from racing herself due to injury. A selfless act, yet Marianne understands better than most how much a crew can drive an athlete to success.

Some things are bigger than medals and finish lines. 

IRONMAN®️ World Championship is, at the best of times, perhaps the most demanding race of the season. But what happens when life throws you a bigger challenge?

A true professional, Marjolaine Pierre stepped to the line this weekend and gave her all under difficult circumstances.

It wasn’t to be, as she stepped off of the course during the run, but to be there, racing, was a testament to her tenacity and grit.
