MATCH REPORT: IUP 43, Dayton 26 🏉

Top of the table, and a home playoff match secured. IUP beat Dayton 43–26 at the IUP Rugby Field on Saturday, pulling away in the second half after leading 19–14 at the break.

The Crimson Hawks owned the first ten minutes. Sideline-to-sideline play carried them into the Dayton 22, and Michael Fryer finished it for the opening try. Dayton hit back, and the half became a trade. Charles Edwards scored, Dayton answered again, and Dylan Deasy crossed to close the half with IUP ahead 19–14.

The second half swung early. Edwards kicked off a scrum play for a 60-metre gain and an attacking scrum, and Dayton spent the third quarter under pressure. Deasy took an inside ball and split the gap between the centers for his second. Edwards got his second after sustained team pressure. The forwards took control, with Jayce Brooks carrying hard off first phase, and Damion Shaffor and Cleveland Woodson scored on opposite wings. Dayton had the last word with a late try. Amaree' Freeman kicked four of seven conversions.

Chuck was Man of the Match with two tries, 12 tackles at 87 percent and five turnovers earned. Deasy was Players' Player with two tries, 11 tackles at 100 percent and four turnovers. Fryer, who passed 100 points for the club against Miami, added to his total. Shaffor's try was his first of the season.

Defense, fitness and skill won it. Credit to Dayton, a big, physical side with good players in key positions. We're already looking forward to another competitive match in Dayton next year.

STANDINGS: IUP 12 pts (3–1, +53) · Dayton 8 · Ohio 4 · Kent State 0 · West Virginia 0

Alumni Weekend, home ground, and the Crimson Hawks put on a show. 🏉

Full time at the IUP Rugby Field: IUP 76, West Virginia 7. Twelve tries in all. Cleveland Woodson scored a hat-trick, Jayce Brooks and John Paul Farah got two apiece, and Wesley Taylor, Mason Raglani, Charles Edwards, Dylan Deasy and Alessandro Iturbide added one each. Amaree' Freeman kicked eight of ten conversions.

Two players stood out (more than that, we just couldn't mention them all!). Charles Edwards was Man of the Match with 20 tackles (four of them dominant), six carries, three tackle breaks and a defender beaten. Cleveland Woodson was Players' Player with his hat-trick, four carries, a tackle break, three defenders beaten and a line break.

🏉 IUP RUGBY HALL OF FAME — CLASS OF 2026 🏉

Please join us in congratulating Ana Olander (2015) on her induction into the IUP Rugby Hall of Fame! 🎉

Ana was a dominant force in the pack, playing five years of rugby for the IUP women’s team, the Scooters. A versatile and selfless player, she was a facilitator, a support player, and a leader who consistently did whatever her team needed to succeed.

🏆 On the field, Ana:

* Helped lead the Scooters to a national run in 2012–2013.
* Played a key role in the success of the women’s team from 2012–2015.
* Brought tremendous knowledge, leadership, and determination to the pitch.
* Was nominated for a USA Women’s Eagles rugby showcase.

🤝 Beyond the pitch, Ana’s impact was just as significant. She was a tremendous teammate, a driving force in recruiting, and one of the key contributors to the growth of the women’s rugby program. She helped bring the men’s and women’s teams together, building a stronger sense of unity and pride in IUP Rugby as a whole.

Ana’s leadership, passion for the game, and dedication to her teammates left a lasting legacy that continues to be felt today.

🏉 IUP RUGBY HALL OF FAME — CLASS OF 2026 🏉

Please join us in congratulating Ron “Wh**ey” White (1983) on his induction into the IUP Rugby Hall of Fame! 🎉

A second-row forward from the Erie area, Wh**ey was a powerful presence on the pitch during his years with IUP Rugby in the early 1980s. He became both team captain and club President, helping lead the program while studying Communications at IUP.

Wh**ey’s impact on IUP Rugby didn’t end when he graduated.

After leaving IUP, he came up with the idea of creating an alumni team — the Old Boys Indiana Tooters (OBITs) — with the goal of bringing former players back together to support the current team and compete in the Sugar Cup tournament.

The first OBITs weekend in May 1987 helped establish a tradition that connected generations of IUP Rugby players. The weekend even included the inaugural Leisure-Suit Open golf tournament at Meadow Lane Golf Course — a pret
