Bruce Lee wasn’t only a martial arts icon. He also had real experience in Western boxing.

While studying at St. Francis Xavier’s College in Hong Kong, Bruce trained in boxing and represented his school in competition. In 1958, at just 17 years old, he entered an inter-school boxing tournament and won it.

In the final, he defeated Gary Elms, who had been the tournament champion for the previous three years.

Long before Bruce Lee became a global martial arts legend, boxing was already part of his fighting journey.

Happy Labor Day to our entire family! 🥊🇺🇸
Today, we take a moment to pause, rest, and celebrate the incredible work ethic that makes our community so special. Look around our floor on any given day and you’ll see the true heart of this country: good people from every imaginable background, every trade, and every walk of life standing side by side. From tradespeople and nurses to students, office workers, and parents—when we step through those doors, we are one team, bound by mutual respect and a shared love for the sweet science.
Boxing has always been a sport built on the backs of hard-working everyday people. Some of history’s greatest champions came straight off the shift before stepping into the ring:
James J. Braddock worked exhausting shifts as a longshoreman on the New Jersey docks to feed his family before fighting his way to the World Heavyweight Championship.
Jack Dempsey labored in Western coal mines and smelters long before he ever wore championship gold.
Smokin’ Joe Frazier spent his early days doing heavy labor in farm fields and Philadelphia slaughterhouses.
They proved that true fighting spirit isn’t just built in the gym—it’s forged through daily dedication, sweat, and honest work.
Today is all about honoring that spirit in every single one of you. Rest those muscles, enjoy time with your loved ones, eat good food, and take pride in everything you build and work for every day. You make this team what it is, and we couldn’t be prouder to stand in your corner.
Enjoy your day off—you’ve more than earned it! We will resume classes again tomorrow, ready to get back to work together. 💪❤️
