Rip currents are powerful, fast-moving water channels that can sweep you away- Here’s how to stay safe:

-Stay calm- rip currents pull you out, they don't pull you under.
-Don’t fight them- swimming directly against the current can exhaust you.
-Escape the current by swimming parallel to the shore, then angle back toward land.
-If you can't swim out, float or tread water, signal for help- wave your arms and call for assistance.
-Best rule of thumb: always swim near a lifeguard and check local beach forecasts before diving in.

Let’s all enjoy the beach safely- knowledge is your best lifeguard!

As we enjoy these final summer moments, let's prioritize water safety! Whether you're hitting the pool, lake, or beach, the 5 Layers of Protection are your best defense against water accidents:

1. Supervision: Watch the water, no distractions!
2. Barriers: Fence pools with self-closing, self-locking gates.
3. Water Competency: Ensure basic swimming skills.
4. Life Jackets: Wear USCG-approved life jackets in open water.
5. Emergency Prep: Know CPR and have a plan.

Have a safe and fun Labor Day weekend!

It only takes a few seconds of distraction for an emergency to happen. Drowning is often silent and can happen faster than most people realize.

Whether you're at the pool, beach, or lake, your full attention is one of the most important layers of protection.

Put the phone down, keep your eyes up, and be the Water Watcher your swimmer is counting on. 🛟
