Sode Tsurikomi Goshi 🥋

A powerful throw built around grip control, kuzushi, and timing. Don’t just pull your partner—use the grip to move them into the throw.

Don’t just survive the pin—create your escape. 🥋

Sh*****ng is one of the fundamental movements we practice in judo, and it plays a huge role in escaping pins. By creating space with your hips and using that movement to get your body back into a better position, you can start working your way out of even a strong hold.

It may look simple, but these fundamental movements are what make good groundwork possible.

Harai Goshi — still a work in progress. 🥋

Techniques take time, repetition, and plenty of adjustments. Our students are putting in the work and getting a little better with every rep.

Progress over perfection.

When you’re pinned, don’t panic—move! 🥋

The bridge and roll is one of the fundamental escapes we teach in newaza. It teaches students how to use their hips, timing, and leverage to create an opportunity to escape a pin.

Good groundwork isn’t just about holding someone down—it’s also about knowing how to get out.

Bridge → Roll → Escape. 🥋

Sometimes the best submission starts with the right position. 🥋

The triangle choke is a classic newaza technique that combines positioning, control, and leverage to create a submission from the ground.

Judo isn’t just about the throw. Learning what to do once the fight hits the mat is just as important.

Position → Control → Submission. 🥋

You can’t throw from too far away. 🥋

One of the most important parts of judo is learning how to close the distance and get into the right position before attacking. Good footwork, timing, and movement create the opportunity for the throw.

Close the distance → Create kuzushi → Throw.

Strong throws start with a strong entry.

The fight doesn’t end when you hit the ground. 🥋

An armbar from guard is a great example of how positioning, control, and leverage can create a submission opportunity from the bottom.

Newaza gives us an entirely different side of judo to explore—from escapes and pins to submissions and transitions.

Control. Position. Technique. 🥋

One attack creates the next. 🥋

When the De Ashi Barai doesn’t finish the throw, use this opportunity to throw Osoto Gari. This combination is a great example of how judo isn’t about forcing one technique. It’s about recognizing the opening and adapting.

De Ashi Barai → Osoto Gari
