Many men learn to measure themselves by what they accomplish.

Their careers. Their income. Their responsibilities. Their ability to solve problems and take care of others.

Those priorities can be valuable. But they can also leave friendship sitting at the bottom of the list.

When life gets busy, social time becomes optional. When something goes wrong, some men default to handling it privately. When friendships fade, they may assume it's simply part of getting older.

And because many friendships are built around a shared context like work, school, a particular team, or a regular activity... losing that context can mean losing the relationship, too.

This isn't true of every man, and men aren't the only ones who experience it. But the pressure to appear capable and self-sufficient can make it harder for some men to acknowledge that they want more connection.

Here's the important distinction:
Being independent doesn't mean you have to do everything alone.

Having people you can count on isn't a weakness. It's part of building a life that is sustainable, meaningful, and connected.

You don't need to turn every conversation into a deep emotional discussion. You don't need to become the most outgoing person in the room.

Sometimes, you just need people who know your name, expect you to show up, challenge you to get better, and notice when you haven't been around.
