A little bit of history, a whole lot of culture, and a beautiful part of ballet education!

Did you know that ballet’s history is deeply connected to social and folk dance traditions?

Character dance brings those traditions into the ballet studio, introducing dancers to the rhythms, musicality, movement qualities, and cultural influences that have helped shape the art form we know and love today.

We are so fortunate that the (RAD) incorporates Character Dance into its classical ballet syllabus, giving our students the opportunity to explore so much more than ballet technique alone.

Through Character Dance, our dancers develop coordination, musicality, rhythm, expression, and a deeper appreciation for the history and cultures behind the movements they learn. Grades 1-5 prepare you for the challenges that come up in Grades 6-8! It developed the dancer through different styles to be able to seamlessly adapt and perform the expectations in the higher levels.

Because dance education should be about more than perfecting steps. It’s about understanding where they came from, celebrating the traditions that inspired them, and becoming a more knowledgeable, versatile artist.

At Intempo Dance, we’re proud to give our dancers an education that honors both the history and the future of dance.

You need a little bit of THIS… to get to THIS! 🩰✨

Every advanced dancer was once a tiny dancer with a big imagination, a little bit of courage, and a whole lot of passion.

Those playful moments in preschool ballet? They’re so much more than just play! They’re where creativity is encouraged, musicality begins, coordination develops, and a lifelong love for dance takes root.

As dancers grow, that same imagination transforms into artistry, that curiosity becomes discipline, and those tiny movements become the foundation for advanced ballet technique.

At Intempo Dance, we believe in nurturing the whole dancer from their very first plié to their most advanced achievements.

Because before you can develop beautiful technique, you have to inspire a love for movement. 💗

From preschool ballet to pre-professional dance training, it all starts somewhere!

Grade 3 learning their dance for their exam!

Sometimes the best way to get over a difficult part is to mess up, laugh with your friends, and try it again!

Creation is not linear!

This goes for all things in the arts. Not one person will get from point A to point B the same way… not with the same corrections or modifications or suggestions or even guides.

It is not linear. Which means everyone’s pathway is different. Looks different. Feels different.

That’s why allowing students to explore the space, help each other, and ask questions is so important for student growth.

Creation is not linear.
