Meet the white-margin nudibranch - Glossodoris rufomarginata - a.k.a. 25 millimeters of “Wait… is that a slug?”
This little fella may look like a tiny brown critter at first glance, but zoom in and you’ll find a white body covered in teeny orange-brown flecks, delicate white-edged rhinophores, and a fancy little ruffled mantle.
These guys are surprisingly common around Maui, from tide pools all the way down to about 210 feet, and they’re often found hanging out in groups on their favorite dark gray sponge.

We came across this Asteronotus cespitosus, better known as the Clumpy Nudibranch, and it was a BIG one - about hand-sized!
These guys are masters of camouflage, blending remarkably well into their surroundings. They can reach around 10 inches (250 mm), but they’re not something we see every day.
So yes… the video is basically just a nudibranch sitting there doing absolutely nothing. 😂
But when you realize what you're looking at - and how uncommon it is to encounter one this size - suddenly it gets pretty exciting.

Two frogfish. Zero interest in being seen. 😏
They don't show up on every trip... but when they do, everyone on board forgets to blink.
One of the many reasons we never get tired of heading out on the water.
