STAY WITH IT!! Cycle 6
In-season strength training isn’t optional — it’s protective: structured strength and injury-prevention work has been shown to cut overall injury rates by roughly a third, with some youth-specific reviews reporting reductions of up to 66% in acute and overuse injuries.
Skip training once the season starts, and the body starts giving back gains fast: conditioning (VO2 max) can drop about 8% in the first 12 days of reduced training, and power and strength begin eroding after just 4 weeks off. And the fear that lifting during the season will wear athletes down doesn’t hold up — a 12-week in-season program in youth athletes caused no extra muscle damage or inflammation, proving it’s safe to do alongside practice and games.
Bottom line: the athletes who keep training through the season are the ones who stay healthy, strong, explosive, and available when it matters most. 💪🏼
