Captain Tyler Ryan is a United States Coast Guard licensed Master Boat Captain, and Nationally Certified Power Boat Instructor based on Lake Murray, South Carolina. From amazing experiences on the water, learning about the amazing history of "Miss Murray," spending a lazy day on one of the many beaches accessed only by boat, to checking out some of the amazing real estate, you will love the feelin
g of wind in your hair. Captain Tyler has been in around the water his whole life, growing up in the lakes of New Hampshire and Vermont, several years in Charleston, playing up and down the Intracoastal Waterway, and then to The Midlands of South Carolina on Lake Murray. Captain Tyler is also an avid water sports fan, and operates AquaFun Paddle, which rents kayaks and standup paddle boards. He is an instructor for both, as well. In addition to charters and tours Captain Tyler provides hands-on boat instruction to new boaters, and even serves as an Adjunct Professor in the University of South Carolina's Physical Education Program, teaching boating and sailing to USC students. He also leads jet ski tours and instruction. Captain Tyler holds a United States Coast Guard Boat Charter Captain License.

Here is another knot you ought not not know - Round Turn and 2 Half Hitches
Here us another quick knot from someone who is NOT a Boy Scout, but it is useful, for sure. The Clove Hitch is a great tie, but it can break without tension. With this guy, the two half hitches will help you keep it locked.
It is useful from tying to docks, boat fenders (or bumpers), and even camping. The cool thing is it holds under tension, is easy to untie, and doesn't slip.

One of the top knots you ought not not know when it comes to boating is a clove hitch. It is a handy knot to quikly connect to a dock (although I wouldn't leave it docked that way). It is a super fine knot for boat bumpers, or drying lines etc.

Boating 101: We all start somewhere when it comes to boating, and some folks have trouble with the door on a pontoon.
Look for the hinge, and pull the door up. You can also look for the "lift here" sticker that is on many of them.

Even if you aren't a Boy Scout, there are a few knots that you Ought Not Not Know!
15 feet is a popular length for deck line, but sometimes you need a little more, so you can use a sheet bend. As any knotter will tell you there are many ways to tie a knot, but this is a simple way to get more length.
This knot is very strong, but breaks really easy. It is also a great way to get more line of different sizes!
