The lymphatic system of the horse relies on motion to facilitate the return of edema from the lower limbs. When horses are non-ambulatory, these processes can grind to a halt. This is why they “stock up,” “fill up,” or develop “windpuffs” in a stall or trailer.

Caretakers have long used compression to mitigate these effects, but wrapping can be tricky. Wraps hold heat, which can be problematic in the summer months. Wrapping is cumbersome and technical. One bad wrap can be detrimental to your horse’s soundness.
