👉 Even two weeks of breastfeeding has real benefits for your baby and for you.
In those early days, your baby receives colostrum: rich in antibodies and protective factors that support gut health and immune development.

For parents, those early feeds release oxytocin: supporting bonding and helping the uterus contract and recover after birth.

And if you’re hoping to continue longer, frequent milk removal in those first couple of weeks helps establish your milk supply.

Longer days. Warmer air. A little more light at the end of the 5pm tunnel.

Fun fact: sunlight supports oxytocin release — the same hormone responsible for milk letdown, bonding, and that calm, connected feeling during feeds. 🤱

Research suggests that oxytocin plays a key role in milk flow. So stepping outside, feeling the sun on your face, and taking a few slow breaths might support both your nervous system and your feeding journey. 🙌

Fresh air. Regulated nervous system. Snuggly baby. We’ll take it!

A recent study published in Acta Paediatrica looked at over 450 breastfeeding sessions and found several specific, modifiable behaviors associated with more effective milk transfer.

That means there are small, teachable adjustments that may support more effective feeding. 🙌

Here’s what was linked to better suck-swallow patterns:

✨ Before latching
Baby in a quiet/active alert state
Feeding cues observed (rooting, hand-to-mouth, mouthing)

✨ Positioning
Tummy-to-mummy alignment
Baby’s arms around the breast
Baby’s head free of restrictions

✨ Latch-on behaviors
A wide gape
Head tilt as baby approaches
Lower lip reaching the breast first

Research confirms that effective milk transfer isn’t just about “how it looks once baby is on.” Setup and approach matter, too.

We’ve seen this idea floating around on social media (thanks ) about celebrating the end of your breastfeeding journey based on “money saved on formula.”

And while we’re always here for celebrating parents, let’s add a little nuance.

👉 Yes, feeding your baby human milk can reduce formula costs. But breastfeeding isn’t “free.”

There’s time.
Energy.
Pumps.
Parts.
Nursing bras.
Midnight feeds.
Mental load.

Not to mention the up-in-the-middle-of-the-night Amazon shopping sprees. 😂

However you fed your baby, breast, bottle, combo, exclusive pumping, you showed up. And that deserves recognition. 🙌

Jewelry. A massage. A weekend away. A really good coffee maker. Or honestly? A nap. 😅

Feeding your baby is work. However you did it, we’re proud of you.

“Hospital grade” and “hospital strength” sound impressive… but what do they actually mean? 🤔

Here’s the truth: those are marketing terms.

Some pumps are designed to be multi-user, meaning the motor is built to withstand years of use by different people (like pumps commonly used in hospitals).

But that does NOT automatically mean they will remove milk more effectively for you than a well-fitted, personal-use pump.

What matters more than the label:

✔️ Proper fl**ge sizing
✔️ Comfortable, effective suction settings
✔️ Correct assembly of parts
✔️ Your body’s response to that specific pump
✔️ How often and consistently you’re pumping

👉 Milk removal is driven more by effective stimulation and fit than by branding and marketing language.
