COACHES SPOTLIGHT: COACH BACH

Swim Experience: The wet and wild history of Coach Bach’s swimming career began in Lincoln at the one and only Ballard Pool. Joining the swim team at the age of six, I was bursting with excitement and energy.. My first meet was on a rare cool Saturday morning in June. Mind you, at that age I refused to wear goggles. Needless to say, that was a mistake. After hearing the starter gun, I dove in. While not being able to see underwater I kicked as fast as an engine, and attempted to take my first stroke. Well, my first arm pull landing on another swimmer. I was confused. Whipped my eyes and realized that I had surfaced in the next lane! Yep, I was DQ’d and embarrassed. But, I came back the next week feeling confident to race fast. I had a secret weapon… I learned to use my goggles. I then went on to swim club for GPAC and HLA, and high school for Lincoln East.

Coaching Experience:
-LOTS!!
-Hillcrest Country Club 2007-2012
-GNST 2011-2017
-HLA 2017-now
-4th year as LNE head coach, previously LNE assistant coach

Outside the Pool:
-Enjoy listening to live music. Hundreds of concerts attended. Lucky enough to have seen 69 concerts by the same band. Hint: (They have Skyscrapers in the band, and the drummer plays the vacuum)
-Play Frisbee, Ultimate and Disc Golf
-My real name is Marcus and I have a lovely wife named Audrey. We have two little boys. Wesley (5) and Willem (3)

Real Life:
-head coach of HLA year round
-also a Husker grad!

COACHES SPOTLIGHT: COACH MAC

Swim Experience: My parents met on their high school swim team, so it’s in my blood! I grew up in Minnesota, and swam club for South Metro Storm and was a 6 year varsity swimmer for Lakeville South High School (we can start in 7th grade in MN!). I swam for the UNL Swim Club, and was President for two years.

Coaching Experience:
-volunteer coach for Lincoln High in college
-4 years as the assistant swim coach at LNE

Outside the Pool:
-I enjoy camping/canoeing during the summers
-my husband and I are expecting our first baby, the newest Rocket will join the team this January!

Real Life:
-I teach Special Education at McPhee Elementary
-I went to UNL for college, and also graduated with an MS in Child Development and an MEd in Special Education. 3 Husker degrees!

COACHES SPOTLIGHT: COACH HAEFFNER

Diving Experience: My diving career sprung into action when I decided that the divers seemed to have more fun than I was having on the swim team. From there I moved on to doing club diving for over 10 years. In my tenure at LNE on the dive team I finished top 5 at state all 4 years. Although never did take the top of the podium. I was given the honor of being an All American, and the 4th to do so in swim/dive history.

Coaching Experience:
-2 seasons of coaching diving for parks and rec at UNI pool
-This will be my 3rd season with LNE as the dive coach, thus far I have had at least 1 diver go to state each year.

Outside of the Pool:
-Enjoy getting out to play golf, ultimate frisbee, and disc golf
-I fix cars, break cars, and generally fix things
-I recently got engaged and am in the process of planning a wedding

Real Life:
-I will graduate from UNL in December with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
Currently interning at Speedway Motors, and am looking for a full time position for after graduation

Rockets Swim and Dive got a chance to give back to the community today

Our women’s relay team of Elsie Maxwell, Aria Feit, Ashlyn Lutz, and Camryn Nelson placed 13th in the 200 free relay and 14th in the 400 free relay. And that’s a wrap on State 2022!!!

Check out this Rocket! Elsie Maxwell placed 6th at state in the 100 fly with a time of 59.42. She also placed 12th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.28. WOOHOO!
