Our mission is to foster an inclusive, sustainable community and to teach sailing to all. Minneapolis Sailing Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) sailing school.

MSC was founded in 1989 by parents from the Calhoun Yacht Club who wanted a formal program for their children to learn to sail and to introduce the sport to others in the area. MSC has grown to one of the largest sailing schools in the U.S.

The sailing season might be over, but that doesn't mean the community building has to end! On Wednesday night MSC sailors met up for our first off-season social hour. It was so fun trading sailing stories and reminiscing about the season with a great group of people.

We'll be hosting another social hour November 11th at Bear Cave Brewing. Stay tuned for more details.

It's de-rigging time and the mooring field is getting a little emptier every day. ☹️

We're sad the season is ending, but thanks to our incredibly helpful volunteers and gorgeous weather, the process of getting all 18 Ensigns off the water has been smooth sailing. ⛵😁

St. Thomas students from a Leadership for Social Justice class came down to Bde Maka Ska to learn how sailing can build leadership and community!

We love seeing how sailing can be a way to learn an abundance of skills, from the basic physics of sailing to teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration ⛵

Peter first sailed at MSC in 8th grade when joining the high school racing team, and made friends that he's still close with and instructs with to this day!

As a staff at MSC, Peter has "met so many amazing people who have inspired me to be the best I can, and to pursue what I love."

Peter's favorite sailing memory was from his freshman year in high school at a regatta on White Bear Lake. He shared how on the final race, "you could see there was a massive wind shift coming down the course. And with about 20 seconds until the start, I told my crew 'Hey, we're gonna port tack the fleet,' and my crew responded, 'You're crazy, let's do it.'" After making this decision, Peter got his first ever first place! He celebrated with his first homecoming dance that night 🥇 Thanks, Peter, for all your amazing work this summer!

We had an absolute blast sailing in some high wind with St. Paul School of Northern Lights last week! Every student took turns skippering, waving at their friends as they sailed by, and dipping their sleeves in the water while high-siding! We had a silly sailing time :)

This summer, Minneapolis Sailing Center sponsored a charter in the Apostle Islands for our Outdoor Afro partners! Sailors developed big boat skills, explored the islands, and enjoyed sunsets off of Raspberry and Stockton islands 🌅

We're so grateful that MSC is able to open up sailing opportunities right here at Bde Maka Ska, as well as on the bigger waters of Lake Superior!
