Senior Spotlight -> Zoey Workman 💐

Zoey started dancing when she was 3 years old and she joined a competitive team at 5 years old. She then joined AWDC during Covid and I remember meeting her and her family with masks. We spent almost a whole season hiding our smiles and emotions. Choreography is also displayed on our face and we lost this component for so long. When I got to see her face while she danced, I remember being overjoyed with her expressions and thinking “Wow! I feel like I’m just meeting her!”

When asked what made her fall in love with dance she answered, “I’ve honestly always loved dance, it’s been one of the few constants in my life and it’s my outlet.”

Q. What dances will stick with you forever?
A. I think the dance that will always stick with me is Body Language because that was the best team dynamic I’ve ever experienced on a dance team and was just so fun to do onstage and get into character.

Q. What will you do after high school?
A. I will be attending college, however, I’m undecided on where and what major. I’m not sure yet what profession I hope to pursue, but I know I will keep dancing for the rest of my life.

Zoey is bright and funny. She has a spitfire personality and the best sense of humor. We are so proud of her work ethic, her achievements and that we get to see her helping our younger competitors this season. 🩵🖤

Senior Spotlight -> Madison Voytek 🩰

Madison had her first dance class at Morgantown Dance when she was around 6 years old for a pirate summer camp. When asked what made Madison fall in love with dance she said “I honestly don’t remember when I fell in love with dance because it’s always been something I loved, it has given me a way to forget about everything and just move.”

Madison shared that even when she was little she loved watching her Barbie dance movie over and over again.

Q. What dances will stick with you forever?
A. A memorable dance would probably be my solo from last year. I’ve never been able to let go and dance without worrying about doing well. It was very special for me to create a dance myself that I loved so much and could do so freely.

Q. What will you do after high school?
A. I plan on attending WVU to major in Exercise Physiology with an emphasis on dance science. I’m hoping to pursue Physical Therapy.

We have had the pleasure of getting to know Madison and work with her on the competitive stage for a few years now and have loved our time with her! She is such a beauty with the longest and most beautiful ballerina legs! Wishing her a wonderful season! 🩵 🖤

Senior Spotlight -> Kaylee Stone 🦋

Kaylee began dancing with AWDC in 2013 at 3 years old during our summer princess camp. She started a pre combo class that fall at 4 years old. When asked what made Kaylee fall in love with dance, she replied, “I fell in love with dance because it was a way for me to express emotions that I could not speak in words. I love the way dance makes me challenge myself, all the friendships and the memories that I have made. The studio feels like home.”

Q. What dances will stick with you forever?
A. The most memorable dance and song that will stick with me forever is Goodbye. Between all of the intricate details and the amazing concept this dance was truly brought to life. I also enjoyed getting to dance with people I had looked up to for so much of my life.

Q. What will you do after high school?
A. After graduating from University High School I plan on attending WVU to study Biomedical Engineering. After graduating from WVU my goal is to become a Biomedical scientist.

Kaylee devours choreography and she loves a challenging skill! She’s always aiming to grow and be her best on the dance floor. Each year she comes back a stronger dancer, ready to learn, expand, and full of surprises for us! She has recently begun choreographing competitive routines and this season, taking on a new age group for the competitive stage! She is passionate and powerful and we are so proud of her! 🩵 🖤

Senior Spotlight -> Lexi Golden 💖

Lexi started acro and twirling in 2013, and began dancing at AWDC in 2014. When asked what made Lex fall in love with dance, she replied, “It was the countless hours spent in class, the effort and commitment, and the incredible teammates I shared those experiences with. Those connections and memories are what made dance feel like home and what made me fall in love with it.”

Q. What dances will stick with you forever?
A. Vagabond and Over Soon. Sister Duos. Dancing with Liv made those moments incredibly special and meaningful. I’m looking forward to one last sister duo….So Here We Are!!!

Q. What will you do after high school?
A. After MHS graduation and completion of the Pre-PN/MA program at MTEC, I plan to attend WVU and study nursing. My long term goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner so I can positively impact the lives of others and help people in my community.

Lexi has also been a huge help with our young competitive teams where she is so very loved for being her supportive, kind and loving self. She helps foster kind little beings by simply being the sweet soul that she is! She is a huge asset to our staff, we are so proud of her, and we love her very much! 🩵 🖤

Welcome to a new season at AWDC! Season twentyONE! TWENTY AMAZING years in my rear view mirror!

Season TwentyONE hits a little different than others. Season Twenty was filled with many celebrations personally and professionally. Some milestones to note:

✨My son graduated high school and I loved every minute of watching him play soccer ⚽️
✨My daughter had a very successful final season of competitive dance with her teammates before entering high school and committing to lacrosse 🥍
✨ 7 amazing graduates are now off to college sharing their beautiful light with others. Lucky to have a few sticking around at the studio to teach. 🩰
✨Couldn’t do any of it alone, very grateful for our staff and very thankful for Miss Melissa and Miss Elizabeth who help ALL of us at the studio. ❤️
✨MRI and a blood test says I’m cancer free 🎉
✨It was also Sean and I’s 20th wedding anniversary🥂

Season TwentyONE … ONE ☝🏻
Beginning again. Another twenty. New journey. New feel.
Looking ahead with new goals for OUR studio WE’VE built together; the studio that is an extension of home for so many of us.
The comfy corner where our students chat after school, snack, sleep, and relax between classes has a fresh new look and I wanted to incorporate some personal things.

Including…and I have been waiting patiently for this poster to arrive…☺️ 🎬 Dirty Dancing!! The music, the dancing, the lift, the falling in love. All of it!
I enjoyed dance when I was little. I don’t remember too much about the very early years other than the costumes and the recitals being soooo fun. I do very much remember seeing Dirty Dancing and loving ALL things dance. Might have also had my first crush on Patrick Swayze and wanted to recreate the final dance scene with my sister over and over again. I loved how Johnny had a vision he wanted people to believe in and he knew they had to see it…and they would love it. I WAS LOVING IT. I STILL LOVE IT! And THE LIFT… what girl didn’t want to learn that lift?

Over the next few days we are going to meet our four graduating seniors: Lex, Kaylee, Madi and Zoey and we are going to learn what flipped the dance switch for them!
