For our final installment of the Split Jerk Tips Series we’re talking about the back leg.

Landing with a straight back leg is a super common error. You can easily fix this with some focused footwork practice.

Focus on jumping into a “tall lunge” and hitting the brakes as soon as your feet meet the floor.

A straight back leg can result in missing the lift for various reasons, or even worse, lead to a back injury.

Immediate results can actually happen from 1 workout… just not in the way you’d expect.

The changes you want to see, the ones that make your friends say “have you been working out?”… those take time.

However, you will mentally be more confident, have greater energy and a new sense of pride from literally going to the gym 1 time.

If its been years since you’ve been, or even if you’ve never been, its absolutely worth giving a try.

R E A C H. Your front foot.
A very common mistake is short stepping the front foot while over reaching and often straightening the back leg.
This often results in missing the lift forward as the body ends up not centered and stabilized under the bar.

Practice your footwork by itself with no arm involvement first.

Then, once you can repeatedly stick the same landing, add a PVC pipe, then an empty bar.

A common mistake is trying to fix this fault under already heavy loads - that rarely ever works as you’ll default to what you’re used to.

We’re now carrying HOIST hydration drinks.
Currently we have Blue Raspberry, Strawberry Lemonade and Watermelon.

These have a high enough sodium content to make a difference, but without the extreme salt taste like LMNT.
