With less than 3️⃣ weeks to go until they kick off the 2026 season at home against UNE on September 5th, Coast Guard Football has slotted in at no. 4 on the annual NEWMAC Preseason Coaches Poll, garnering a first-place vote in the process!

Cheryl Harvey (c/o 1984) was a standout in volleyball, basketball, and softball during her time in New London. She was a captain the three fledgling programs and earned 11 varsity letters across all of them, making her the first female cadet-athlete in Academy history to do so.
Harvey received four major awards as a 1/c, including the CAPT Lee H. Baker Award for leadership and Ladies Auxiliary Fleet Award, given to the Academy’s top senior female cadet-athlete. She also earned Monogram Club Awards as team MVP in volleyball and basketball.
In 2024, Harvey was inducted into the CGA Athletic Hall of Fame as a Pioneer member, recognized for her athletic contributions and leadership to the Academy’s women’s sports programs that were still finding their footing.

Dan Pippenger (c/o 1986) was a star and leader for Coast Guard Wrestling in the 1980s. It was apparent from his 4/c year in New London, when he helped the 1983 team win New England Division III Championship while earning All-New England himself at 6th overall.
1983 was just the start for Dan, who repeated as All-New England with top-three placements over his next three seasons. He was 3rd in 1984, a Champion in 1985, and finished as runner-up in 1986 while leading the team to another regional title as a co-captain.
Pippenger booked trips to the NCAA Division III Championships in 1985 and 1986. He’d eventually close his career by reaching All-American status with a 5th place effort as a senior. He was inducted into the e New England Wrestling Hall of Fame as part of their Class of 2005.
Pippenger, alongside six more individuals and one team, will be take their places as the newest class of the Coast Guard Academy Athletic Hall of Fame on October 1st, 2026.
