Master's boxing event today at Dreamland Boxing in San Jose. Ryan had his first fight. Very close, very exciting fight. Ryan is 45yr. old. He started boxing just over one year ago. He outworks most of the younger people in the gym.

Much thanks to everyone who went all the way down to San Jose to cheer Ryan on.

Coach Nims. Master of the Mad Dog/Bad Dog. Some day I hope to be a master myself.

This morning I was thinking of Nims. And I was smiling. And laughing. He was a crazy character. And he taught me some good boxing. And I try to pass it down. "They are never dead to us. Until we have forgotten them."

You don’t get good over night. You have to study your craft. You have to constantly strive to learn and improve. You have to get through hard times and keep at it.

Elite athletes often find deep satisfaction in repetition. Deliberate, focused practice. Improving technique.

“Coachability” would require a positive attitude. And optimism. And gratitude.

A coachable person is grateful to have an experienced person teaching them and helping them. The coachable person desires improvement. They do their best to remain positive even when experiencing frustration and difficulty.

The uncoachable person has excuses. They don’t appreciate teaching and correction. They can’t handle constructive criticism. They blame other people for difficulty, instead of seeking self improvement. They may bring a lot of negativity.

If someone is consistently bringing negativity to my gym I get rid of them. One way or another. You gotta cut out the cancer. You can’t let it grow. Need to maintain a positive culture.
