The Pasadena Casting Club (PCC) is a group of fly fishing enthusiasts dedicated to fly fishing, fly casting, fly tying, and all things related to the sport. When like-minded men and women gather, fly fishing can be the catalyst for camaraderie which forms life-long friendships. A nonprofit organization founded in 1947, we have our own clubhouse and casting pool in Pasadena’s beautiful Lower Arroyo

Does your club have an official fly? Apparently we do and it has a bit of that golden touch to it.

A few weeks ago, PCC member Artin Marootian, undertook a project to scan all of PCC’s old physical newsletters published since 1947.

In one of those issues, he discovered our official fly. We’ll let him take it from here…

“I’m hoping that this is the historically accurate Troebner Nymph, the official fly of the Pasadena Casting Club. This fly was developed by Herb Troebner. It was first published in the Fish Tales Newletter February 1983 issue and had been developed over 7 years. I would guess 10 years before it was published.

The wing case was the outlier, I found the gold dyed turkey quill at a fly shop in Maine. They’d bought it along with other older materials from another shop that was shutting down and the dates matched the time this gold turkey quill would’ve been dyed. At least it’s very convincing. Alas. This is in my opinion, it.”

Thank you for the discovery and dedication, Artin! Your fly looks incredible.
