Local 4-H shooters take aim at state .22 rimfire match

The Emanuel County 4-H .22 sporter rimfire teams traveled to Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton on Saturday, May 2, to compete in the annual State 4-H .22 Rimfire Match.

Georgia 4-H offers the .22 Rimfire Sporter program as a premier competitive shooting discipline for youth. Designed to teach marksmanship and responsible firearm handling, the program follows Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) rules.

We were honored to take part in a special ceremony during today's D-Day event at our CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama, where we were able to reunite Chad Cassady (retired U.S. Marine Corps Major) with his M40 sniper rifle and read his Silver Star Citation.

Originally from Central Texas, Cassady signed up for the Marine Corps in 2001 before earning a Silver Star for his actions in combat in the Battle of Fallujah in 2004 – using the same M40 rifle.

CMP Board Member Ed Newell, with the help of Cary Murray (a Small Arms Logistics Management Specialist at the Marine Corp Logistics Base in Albany, Georgia), helped track down Cassady's rifle. Both were in attendance during the ceremony, along with CMP Board Member Mark Averill (former Acting Secretary of the Army) and CMP's Board Chair & CEO, Jerry O'Keefe.

Join us next Saturday at the Erie County Conservation League as we help host the 2026 Ohio State Rimfire Sporter Championship!

The event will be held at the facility on June 13, using CMP's electronic targets for scoring!

Open to the public, registration begins at 7 a.m., followed by four relays:
- Relay 1: 8:00 a.m
- Relay 2: 9:30 a.m.
- Relay 3: 11:30 a.m.
- Relay 4: 1:00 p.m.

Adults: $40 ($10 Re-Entry Fee)
Juniors: $20 ($5 Re-Entry Fee)

Another look into the CMP Bianchi Cup!

The Civilian Marksmanship Program just concluded the Bianchi Cup at the Green Valley Rifle and Pistol Club. Located in Hallsville, Missouri—as it has been for over the last 40 years—the Bianchi Cup draws competitors from all over the world.

Due to cancellations for the June Advanced Maintenance Classes (AMC), we have a few limited openings!

Held in Anniston, Alabama, we currently have limited openings available for the following dates:
- June 16-18, 2026: 5 spots remaining
- June 19-21, 2026: 4 spots remaining

This is a great opportunity for those looking to deepen their knowledge and to gain hands-on experience! Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't hesitate to get signed up!

Rifle: $1,150.00
Total: $2,400.00

Tuition payment is required to secure your seat in the class.
The rifle purchase will not be processed until day one of the class.

We're excited to see everyone today through June 7 at our CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Alabama for the 2026 Talladega D-Day event!

We'd like to welcome everyone to the start of the 2026 Talladega D-Day event!

This outdoor marksmanship event honors the anniversary of the Allied Forces landing at Normandy Beach in France in 1944 through diverse rifle, pistol and shotgun competitions and other activities scattered throughout the 500 acres of the park.

All experience levels and spectators welcome!
