Lesson of the Week - Lead Yourself First

Before you can effectively lead others, you must first learn to lead yourself. True leadership isn't about being in charge or telling others what to do—it's about taking ownership, practicing self-discipline, and setting the example, especially when things get difficult or no one is watching.

This week, Sensei Allie Peters challenges us to look at the leaders we admire and ask ourselves: Are we demonstrating those same qualities in our own lives?

Remember, leadership isn't a title. It's a responsibility. And just like earning a black belt, it's not simply about the achievement—it's about the character and habits you develop along the way.

26 YEARS OF EMPOWERING LIVES.

On October 28, KMMA celebrated 26 years since Grandmaster Stephen Del Castillo founded Krav Maga Martial Arts.

But for Grandmaster, the anniversary was about more than looking back. He spent the day doing what he loves most: teaching, mentoring, and helping students grow.

During a visit to our Port Richey academy, our Marketing Director, Christine Holtzman, had the opportunity to document the classes and reflect on the legacy being built one student, one lesson, and one class at a time.

In this special blog, Christine shares her personal perspective on Grandmaster’s leadership, the impact of his teaching, and the lessons that reach far beyond the mat.

Because martial arts is about more than techniques and belts. It’s about building confidence, facing challenges, discovering what you’re capable of, and becoming the person you’re meant to be.

Twenty-six years in, the mission continues.

Read the story and celebrate the legacy with us. ❤️

26 YEARS. ONE MISSION. A LEGACY STILL IN THE MAKING.

Since October 28, 2000, Krav Maga Martial Arts has been about more than martial arts. It's about the people who walk through our doors, the challenges they overcome, the confidence they build, and the leaders they become.

For 26 years, students and families have made KMMA part of their stories. Every class, every breakthrough, every new belt, and every challenge faced together has contributed to a legacy that continues to grow.

Today, we celebrate where we've been, the people who have helped shape our journey, and the work that lies ahead.

Our mission remains at the heart of everything we do: creating confident and competent Blackbelt Leaders, prepared to survive and thrive in any situation and empowered to lead where they’re at, and, into their futures.

To everyone who has been part of these 26 years:

Thank you for being part of the story.

26 years of excellence. And we're still growing.

Your best days may still be ahead of you.

Two years after her first black belt speech, Dani Tredway is stepping into a new chapter of her martial arts journey. Her story is a reminder that growth doesn't happen overnight. It takes commitment, the courage to face challenges, and the willingness to keep learning—even when the journey gets difficult.

At KMMA, we believe continuous improvement isn't just about earning your next belt. It's about becoming stronger, building confidence, and discovering what you're capable of at every stage of life.
