What if obedience is simpler than you’re making it?

Sometimes we become so focused on figuring out God’s entire plan that we overlook what He has already told us to do.

Try this:

Start with Scripture. What has God already clearly commanded?
Stop waiting for a feeling. Obedience does not always feel exciting, easy or convenient.
Do the next right thing. Forgive. Tell the truth. Serve. Pray. Flee sin. Love someone. Be faithful.
Leave the outcome to God. Your responsibility is faithfulness, not controlling what happens next.

You may not know everything God is doing, but you can obey what He has already revealed.

One of the best things we can do for ourselves is be honest about the growth we need to see in our lives. Sometimes the hardest part is simply stopping long enough to look inward and admit, “This needs to change.” But when we are honest about where we are, we can begin to bring those things before God. The Holy Spirit exposes what is not pleasing to Him, not to shame us, but to sanctify us. Growth begins when we stop justifying what needs to change and start surrendering it to God.

If you are still fighting the same sin, don't assume that means God is not working in you. The Christian life includes a real battle against sin, and Scripture calls us to put sin to death by the power of the Spirit. That means we don't excuse sin, but we also don't despair when we stumble. We confess, repent, receive the mercy of Christ and keep fighting. Don't make peace with the sin Christ is teaching you to put to death. What helps you return to obedience when you fall?

Growing Spiritually is tough, we as human beings are constantly faced with the reality of our flesh and that is why it is so important for us to be in step with the Spirit by consuming God's word on a daily basis and live to glorify Him in all we do. God sanctifies those He loves, We need to submit to His word even if it means we have to deny the things we love and hold dear. Would you let go of those things?

Sometimes we turn Christianity into a performance because we forget the order of the gospel. God does not love us because we have finally become good enough, and we do not earn our salvation through religious effort. We are saved by grace through faith, and that grace then produces a life of obedience. Are you currently living from grace or striving for approval?

Do not let sin have the final word over your life or your identity. Repentance should be a daily choice. Sometimes the very things we continue to entertain are the things keeping us from walking in obedience to God. We cannot cling to the very sins our Saviour died to redeem us from. Let us put sin to death, turn from what dishonours Christ, and pursue holiness because we belong to Him.
