When someone raises one of our c**ts, gets to know him, and then comes back to us for another…that tells us we’re doing something right. And as breeders, there really isn’t a greater compliment.

We put a lot of thought into the horses we raise, from the crosses we make to the way these babies are raised here on the ranch. Seeing our buyers return year after year means more than they probably realize.

There’s just something about this big black horse. 🖤

Chek is my very own Black Beauty…and the definition of a gentle giant.

In this video, I’m standing right there in the pasture, rubbing and petting his head and face while he quietly soaks it all in. For a horse with his size, strength and power, his gentle and kind nature is one of the things I love most about him.

And that matters.

We talk a lot about the mares behind our foals, but the sire matters every bit as much as the mare. Temperament, disposition, bone, structure, movement and athletic ability are all qualities we consider when breeding horses.

Chek passes along so many of the traits we love, and it’s one of the reasons our Percheron/Quarter Horse foals are so special.

Watching him out in the pasture with his mares and his offspring, then having him walk up and let me love all over that big beautiful face…that’s Chek. 🖤

🇺🇸 SHE GOT A NAME! Meet Madison! 🇺🇸

Thank you for all of the wonderful suggestions for this special little girl. After much thought, we decided Madison was just right.

She is named in honor of Dolley Madison, wife of our fourth president, James Madison, and one of the most beloved First Ladies in American history.

Dolley was known for her courage, strength and devotion to our young country. During the War of 1812, as British troops approached Washington, D.C., she refused to leave the White House until important national treasures were secured, including the famous portrait of George Washington. Shortly afterward, the British burned the White House.

Her bravery and determination made her an enduring symbol of American patriotism. 🇺🇸

We also loved being able to keep a little family tradition going with her name. Madison keeps the “M” going, just like her mama, Magic, her uncle, Merlin, and her grandsire, Mack. ❤️ That connection made the name feel even more meant to be.

A strong name. A beautiful piece of American history. And a special nod to the horses in her family who came before her.🇺🇸❤️🤍💙

🇺🇸 OUR LATEST BEAUTY NEEDS A NAME! 🇺🇸

And this little girl is extra special. ❤️

She is jet black with two white hind socks, but it’s her family tree that really tugs at my heart.

Her mama, Magic, is the full sister to my beloved Merlin. Some of you may remember Merlin. He was destined to be my heart horse, and losing him at only two years old in June of 2021 absolutely broke my heart.

Magic is his full sister and one of our special home-raised half draft mares, so seeing her with this beautiful filly feels a little like having another piece of Merlin still here with us. ❤️

There’s even more Lazy Six Nine history in her bloodlines. Her grandsire is Mack, our very first registered Percheron stud. That makes this girl several generations of our own breeding program and a whole lot of memories wrapped up in one beautiful black package.

She is sired by our registered Gypsy Vanner stud, Scout, making her 1/2 Gypsy Vanner, 1/4 Percheron and 1/4 Quarter Horse.

With all that history behind her, I think she deserves a name with some meaning.
