🥬🌽 Growing More Than Vegetables—Growing Future Business Leaders! 💼🌱

Have you ever wondered what our middle school campers have been doing this summer?

They've been learning what it takes to run a real business!

Our middle schoolers have played an important role in our Urban Farm, harvesting fresh produce, cleaning and preparing it for market, and selling it each Thursday at the Midtown Market at Katie's Cup.

Through this hands-on experience, they're developing valuable life and workforce skills, including:
🌱 Teamwork
🛒 Customer service
💵 Cash handling
📈 Business and entrepreneurship
🤝 Communication and responsibility

The best part? Their hard work paid off! The money they earned allowed them to treat their group to ice cream and coffee and even contribute toward a summer barbecue for all of our campers. What an incredible lesson in teamwork, responsibility, and giving back!

A special thank you to Denzel Banks, Urban Farmer, Luis Rios, Assistant Urban Farmer, and Rose Richard, Assistant Camp Director, for mentoring, encouraging, and inspiring these young entrepreneurs throughout the summer.

At Patriots Gateway Community Center, we're not just creating fun summer memories—we're helping young people build the confidence and skills they'll carry with them for years to come.

📚✍️ Our Young Patriots' Authors Are Officially Published! ✍️📚

As another incredible summer comes to a close, our campers are putting the finishing touches on one of the most meaningful projects of the season—Patriot Authors!

Every camper had the opportunity to write and illustrate their very own book, transforming their imagination, creativity, and hard work into a story they can proudly call their own.

The books are now complete and on their way to be professionally published! 📖✨

Each young author will receive three printed copies to share with family and friends, and one copy will become part of the Patriots Gateway Community Center library, where future campers can enjoy and be inspired by their stories for years to come.

This project is about more than writing a book—it's about building confidence, encouraging creativity, strengthening literacy skills, and showing our campers that their voices and stories matter.

A heartfelt thank you to United Way of Rock River Valley for making the Patriot Authors program possible through their generous grant support. Your investment is helping create lifelong readers, writers, and dreamers.

We can't wait to celebrate our newest published authors! 💙📚

👮🚔 Patriots Protectors: Learning from Those Who Serve 🚔👮

One of the highlights of our Patriots Gateway Community Center Summer Camp was our Patriots Protectors series, where campers had the opportunity to meet some of the dedicated individuals who work every day to keep our community and our country safe.

We were honored to welcome Officer Johnny Vasquez of the Rockford Police Department, who shared what it's like to serve as a police officer and answered campers' questions about his important role in protecting our community.

Experiences like these help our campers learn about leadership, responsibility, public service, and the many ways they can make a positive impact in the world around them.

A sincere thank you to Officer Vasquez for taking the time to inspire our campers and for your continued service to the Rockford community. We appreciate your commitment to keeping our neighborhoods safe and helping build positive relationships with our youth.
