Mark your calendar: April 17 10:00-noon. We do this once a quarter in Release & Realign: we team up to turn this into a two hour experience. Yoga Jeanne Munoz and I have been teaching together since 2012. If you've yet to feel her chanting you into shivasana—-well, not to be missed. And in our new space, light pours in from the east onto the oak floor. We have props to borrow: roller, balls, straps, blocks. Come drop in and breathe, move and change with us for this special duet class. More info: https://www.bodyjoy.net/yoga

I have always loved bodies. Fascination with mine and curiosity about every body I witness. So it’s no surprise I do the work I do. This week on Wednesday I get to guide 5R https://www.bodyjoy.net/dance An exploration of where we’re fluid and where we’re holding. And then Friday https://www.bodyjoy.net/yoga a mat class along the same lines really. The intrigue of breath and sensation as alternative to the 6,000 thoughts we have every day. I hope we can practice together some day.

This morning I treated C.S., a middle-aged man I'd last seen 3 weeks ago. A one year history severe sciatica, even walking one block brought on intense calf pain. He'd been treated in physical therapy but, as so often happens, had hardly been touched. No one addressed the scar tissue built up in the fascia all along the route of the sciatic nerve. No one taught him how to release that and gently floss the nerve, untethering it from fascia & muscle. I treated him conservatively: hands on plus education for self care. I worried about him; it's always risky to start in a new direction. He returned today so much better, had even walked five miles with no pain. We progressed all the release work, the flossing moves and began subtle core toning. I can't even begin to tell you what daily joy my work brings me. I'm continually disappointed in many aspects of current medical care. We know so much about how to treat sciatica, way more than when I graduated 53 years ago. I remain heart-fully dedicated to remaining in service.

Did you know I have a YouTube channel? Mostly it is full of videos for individual patients who were not able to record on their own phone. But it is chock full of a sample of the things you might learn when we work together. Made this one this morning:
for Nancy 1-20-26
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

My two precious feet have carried me through this lifetime. There were times when the base support they offer was critically painful. Once I could hardly bear weight on the right tootsie thru four long months. Bless this episode for finally turning me on to how to fully address this oh-so-common problem. (Clue: it is not about rubbing the bottom of your foot.) We have 2 1/2 hours Sun Jan 25 for me to pass this wisdom on. I love being with you at Yoga Shala. Let's do it.❤️

Interested in the final steps, what it takes to become a physical therapist? Really it started in Chapter 1----but here is Chapter 10.
Chapter 10: 🎼I left my cadaver, in SF🎶 — Body Joy
My developing fascination with all things body and healing kept me going. Through a heart-breaking stint working with amputees at Letterman Army Hospital, cerebral palsied kids at Shriners, burn patients at Alta Bates.

I adore this class. Come join me this morning to release all the kinks, do a bit of core toning and then glide/floss that weary nervous system. A little warrior pose at the end if we have time! ❤️Bella

nervous about your system? — Body Joy
Did you know we have more than one nervous system? One of these systems has a lot of air space in the cultural conversation right now: the autonomic nervous system. Most know it as that “fight, flight” thing. Actually it’s two connected pathways---sympathetic and parasy

Love testimonials like this....thank you M.E.
Hey Bella,
Here's another anecdote illustrating how rolling has changed my life (no hyperbole intended...). My wife and I were picking up our 3 year old granddaughter at her marvelous day care and I stumbled in a hole on the playground. I didn't actually fall, but my body seized up as I caught my body. By the time we arrived at home, my knee was throbbing as was my lower back; I could hardly walk and felt very, very weak and tentative in my movements: not a great way to be around a 3 year old. Luckily, my daughter has a hard, 3 foot foam roller and I had packed my balls. So, later that evening I rolled for about an hour: rolled as I breathed and listened to my body, it's aches and age. I then took a warm bath and went to bed. The next day I was sore, but mobile. I repeated the rolling again that night. By the next day (the 2nd after to stumble), I could hardly feel any pain or stiffness. So, here's an instance of listening to my body, deeply feeling the soreness and rolling with self love and compassion: no drugs, no docs. Now, almost a week later, I feel as good as ever. Thanks again, Bella. As I said, you're a life changer. https://www.bodyjoy.net/physical-therapy
