Shorin Ryu Minnesota Youth/Adult karate lessons from Sixth Dan Black Belt instructor Dieter Von der Marwitz. Introductory

The meaning and spirit of TRADITIONAL KARATE comes from the history of the Island of Okinawa, Japan – the birthplace of Karate. The roots of Karate were brought to Okinawa by Masters that traveled to China to learn the Martial Arts. It is believed that a Buddhist Priest, Bodhidharma, developed the first self-defense techniques within the walls of the monastery in China. In this quiet, meditative atmosphere, Karate became a way of life, a spiritual discipline, with a code of honor. Fundamental to this code of honor, non-violence and respect are central to the teaching found at the Shorin Ryu Minnesota Karate Studios.

Class of the Kyoshi has come to a end for 2026. I just wanted to take the time to thank our dynamic panel of hachidans and nanadans for giving so freely of their time and knowledge. I know it does not come without sacrifice and is very much appreciated. I also want to thank everyone who supported this years camp and wish you all a safe travel home. Looking forward to next year's 2027 Class of the Kyoshi.
