Lackawanna River Heritage Trail

Lackawanna County has reported that a mosquito sample collected August 24 at the Laurel Street Trailhead in Archbald tested positive for West Nile virus.

No human cases have been reported in Lackawanna County. County and state officials are monitoring the situation.

Trail users are encouraged to take routine precautions, including using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants when practical, and avoiding areas with heavy mosquito activity.

Dozens of runners gathered along the Lackawanna Valley Heritage Trail in Scranton on Sunday for the inaugural Rescue Run, a fundraising event benefiting the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.

There will be a 5K, 10K, and 2-mile fun walk at the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail to support food, medical care, and shelter for local animals in need 🐶🐱

🕖 Registration is at 7:30 a.m. at the Olive Street Pavilion, and the main events start at 9:00 a.m.
💸 It costs $30 to take part in the 5K, $35 for the 10K, and $30 for the fun walk
🐕 Dogs are welcome as long as they’re leashed!

TRAIL NOTICE

Lackawanna County will conduct mosquito spraying at the Delaware Street Trailhead in Jermyn on Friday, August 21, between 1 and 5 p.m.

No West Nile virus was detected. The spraying is a precautionary measure in response to a high mosquito count in the area. Trail users may want to avoid the trailhead during that time. Jermyn Police DepartmentJermyn Borough
