The heat is on…..⬇️⬇️⬇️
Hot yoga + summer heat = very high fluid and electrolyte loss, so being intentional about hydration really matters. Here’s a simple, effective strategy before, during, and after class:
🔥 Before Class (Start Hydrating Early)
Begin 2–3 hours before
Drink 500–600 mL (2–2.5 cups) of water
About 15–20 min before class: add another 200–300 mL
Add electrolytes if:
You sweat heavily
Your class is 60–90+ minutes
You’ve already been in the heat all day
✅ Tip: A light electrolyte drink or water with a pinch of salt + lemon works well.
🧘 During Hot Yoga
Sip small amounts every 10–15 minutes (don’t chug—can cause nausea)
Aim for 400–800 mL per hour, depending on sweat rate
⚠️ Listen to your body:
Feeling dizzy, weak, or nauseous = pause + hydrate
Overdrinking plain water without electrolytes can dilute sodium (not ideal)
💧 After Class (Recovery is Key)
This is where most people under-hydrate.
✅ Replace what you lost:
Drink at least 500–750 mL after class
If you lost a lot of sweat → go closer to 1 L
✅ Replenish electrolytes:
Coconut water
Electrolyte tablet/drink
Snack with salt (e.g., nuts, yogurt, eggs)
⚖️ Bonus: Personalize Your Hydration
🚨 Watch for Dehydration or Overheating
Red flags (stop and rehydrate):
Headache
Dizziness or lightheadedness
Rapid heartbeat
Muscle cramps
✅ Smart Habits for Hot Yoga in Summer
Avoid alcohol the night before (dehydrates you)
Limit caffeine right before class
Wear breathable clothing to reduce overheating
Bring a large bottle (at least 1 L)
