25 years ago today, Mike Mussina was absolutely untouchable against the Red Sox, taking a perfect game all the way down to the final out. After retiring 26 straight hitters, Mussina needed just one more to make history at Fenway Park.
Carl Everett had other plans, lining a two-strike single into the outfield to end the perfect-game bid. Mussina still finished the night with a one-hit shutout in one of the best starts of his career.
