Don't just jab your stakes straight into the dirt. Drive them at an angle leaning away from the tent. It works against the direction your guylines pull, so you get way more holding power when the wind kicks up. And when things go from bad to worse, better tension = a tighter pitch = water sheds off instead of pooling on your fly. Storms, do your worst.

Forgot your filter? Boiling water can't screen out sediment or grit, but it does kill the stuff that makes you sick: bacteria, viruses, and parasites. One to three minutes at a rolling boil is enough at most elevations. Ever had to do this on a trip before?
